Help rebuild le Petit Mur de Son / the lil' Wall of Sound

Forums:

Pour tous les Zoners!

I was fortunate to meet the builder of the mini Wall of Sound at the Q run... and was sorry that I spaced about asking him why he always lists the name in French!  C'est la vie.

He told me to watch for some new projects, and wow was he right.

GoFundMe page: https://l.instagram.com/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fgofund.me%2Fa55c6fbb&e=ATNW226Q...

Way better than his Insta account is the lengthy description, images and videos of sound check on his GoFundMe page.... he describes his full project plan in phases.

It's a worthwhile effort to support, and there are even volunteer opportunities... how cool would that be?

I have visions of future young sound engineers learning the history of the Wall of Sound through these projects!

"La Petite Mort" (the little death) is the French term for orgasm. I suspect the Wall-builder may be making a play off that.

I suppose that would make the original Wall of Sound, "Le Grande Mort" or the Great Death. Perfect for the Grateful Dead.

Yep, familiar with that term (studied French all through high school and college).. and it's clever how you spin it..... but I don't think there's a connection between that term and this project.
I'll refrain from adding even more clever commentary so as not to be a threadkiller.

Do I have to microdose to listen to this miniature system?

^^^ Well, if you must...   ce qui sera, sera

I'm enjoying the set break tonight through this sound system in Connecticut . Of course the Z3 play live through it with a Zappa musical embrace is incredible.

^^^ awesome pic, thanks for posting

The musicians are from the Land of the Giants.

Rebuild it full scale like the original with JBL and EV speakers in thick solid hard truckers-type cabs, and McIntosh 2300 amps with Alembic F-2B preamps, then I'll be impressed.

I'm impressed someone cared enough to take the time.  VERY artistic.

According to the go fund me the 1/6 scale wall is complete, the 1/4 scale wall is complete, the 1/2 scale wall is under construction, and the full scale wall is next.  It's a cool project and I hope the full scale one comes to fruition...when that happens there is potential for some very cool concert happenings.

^hopefully it won't bankrupt them ala The GD

Hope they get some better mics - the one downfall of the original.

also fell in love with him at the Q

been a rabid supporter ever since

So this is an older thread I wanted to revive.  After years away from the Phil Zone I rejoined Vivalazone.  So here's the project update!  1:6, 1:4 and now 1:2 scale walls have been built.  The three 1:4 scale walls all sold.  One at auction at Analogr.com and is in Hamburg Germany. The second sold to D&C to raise money for Musicares and was raffled off at the Sphere last run.  It's with a private owner in Chicago and the 3rd was sold and auctioned off to raise money for Heacount ($100K).  These private sales which I continue to look for largely helped fund the 1:2 scale fully functioning wall which is in desperate need or a buyer or a long term partner/residency.  Do you know a large enough venue that is interested??? You can find links to all my socials and press/appearances as well as system specs here. https://www.linktr.ee/74wos .  This project needs support in order for it to continue.  Largely the support is needed in securing the next home for the 1:2 scale wall so I can start building interest in the full scale project.  I am looking for a venbue that wan't to be a part of the journey and one that would make it available for ALL musicians to experience.

Thank you for your service

Hey Anthony! Nice to see your post and good to discuss Wall of Sound ideas yesterday.

Zoners, Let's discuss these ideas + your ideas for a temporary residence or permanent home because the 1:2 scale certainly deserves a home in California!

1) Temporary residence at The Mateel Center in Humboldt County (I'm talking with them on Monday, hopefully, as the venue is the perfect size to do the sound justice)

2) Temporary residence at Jerry Garcia Amphi in SF?

3)  Permanent residence at someone's barn or warehouse for future Zoner jams or fundraisers for Seva, Camp Winnarainbow or Rex?

Who among you have connections or better ideas?

After yesterday's call, I now have details of general costs...if anyone wants to discuss privately.

I am volunteering my time to assist with some grant research and media relations, too, hopefully in exchange for getting trained to run the soundboard someday! ;-)

Anthony, thanks for posting the latest update on the mini wall and welcome to Viva!  I would travel to see a show where the band used the 1/2 size wall.  This is a worthy project, hoping the wall finds its next home soon!
