I like Zach Top

Remembering our friendly pal JJ Wood this weekend. He passed at Telluride while going from camp to camp "Anawhacking."

From a FB post.

For the uninitiated, I'll let Drew Emmitt explain Anawhacking:

Another old tradition is the band's all night merry prankstering throughout campgrounds after the official end of a festival evening. "It was all kind of born in Telluride, probably '89," said Emmitt, chuckling. "Some of us would go around to campfires and sort of sneak around and jump out and start playing something and totally break up the jam and then run away.

"And gradually you build up a following of people going with you, surrounding these campfires and disturbing people's jams. We started singing this song 'Anawhack' by the Austin Lounge Lizards about Anawhack, Texas. We'd all sing it really out of tune, and play it, then run away."

So that's anawhacking...and this is the last story of John's love-filled life:

"I wanted to share a little info with you all, as I was lucky enough to pick John's last tune with him. Bearfoot Kenny was singing "See the Mornin' Sun", an Andy Thorn tune. Vince Herman busted in and Anawhacked our jam right as the song was concluding. I was standing next to John, Vince and others, and John was belting out the Anawhack chorus with Vince - about as happy as a man could be, as you could imagine. We all decided to walk up to the cascadia tent and Anawhack them, and this is when John fell down, and into a tent, presumably due to a burst blood vessel in his head/brain.

I'll post a pic later. Gotta run to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings concert.

Thanks for the story of John's heart last musical adventure, Slick.

Have a great weekend.
