Interesting as always. I wonder what the band thinks, and how much they sound check/practice the arrangements? At some moments hardly anyone else is playing, Don't think twice/Desolation, Simple twist, were examples of this. Garden Party cover, interesting...
There was an Owl flying over the crowd and show a few times, both during Bob and Willie.
Willie was either sick, or not well. He was blowing his nose most of his set and had little singing energy. Anyhoo...still had moments.
go to the show.
the end of Billy's set he was joined by Sierra Hull who I wanted to see but we just missed her set. traffic sucks. The tandem of the 2 youngsters was really good and I thought was the best segment of music that night, and I'm not fully on the Billy bus.
Great B-Day show. Bob's voice was strong and clear last night. Which is good because you could hardly see him on the darkened stage, no screens, and what seemed to be only four candles for stage lighting.
I was also wondering if he rearranges the songs each night, but the All Along the Watchtower was almost identical to the one he played with Billy in Napa (except no Billy last night). Have to assume that is the case for the other songs he repeats on this tour. Otherwise, his band would go bonkers trying to follow what he was doing.
The Mrs and I took our kids yesterday to see Lucinda, Wilco, Bob, and Willie. It was grand. Wilco ended their set with. US Blues! That wasn't on my bingo card. It was a nice nod to the birthday boy.
I was at SPAC. Loved it from beginning to end. US Blues was killer, got that whole crowd fired up. First Dylan show in 17 years for me, also first time seeing Willie in 22 years, and first time seeing Wilco and Lucinda Williams. Waylon Payne also played an enjoyable set.
I'd love to hear that recording, can you direct me to its location at that site? I was looking in the thread for the 8/2 show. but I probably stupidly missed it. Thanks!
Masters of War, first since 2016 and first ever full show opener...last year we got the Desolation Row "wrench" breakout in Buffalo and this year we get this.... amazing Bob
Thanks Judit, that one was a labor of love as I had forgotten to set up ahead of time to record and also was not happy with the amount of chatter around me( a common problem at these Outlaw shows) so I utilized my sister to help grab videos along with myself and then extracted audio from them for BB to remaster. Video audio is actually pretty good SQ on modern iPhones so it worked in a pinch. I'm glad because my last couple of recordings haven't turned out well enough to warrant sharing imho.
Final night of my four show run(unless something crazy pops onto Bobs setlist in September!)
Bob was in great voice in Syracuse, a new “wall of lights” in front of his piano appeared tonight.
This weekend, it was 3 consecutive shows and a bit of a tour of western NY and Pa. Buffalo saw the breakout opener of Masters of War, in its first appearance since 2016 and first time ever opening a full length show(maybe once in Newport I hear?) Being the 80th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, but also the rumored inspiration for the Sabbath song War Pigs, and with the recent passing of Ozzy Osborne, one is left to wonder what brought this song back. He has carefully placed that song over the years so I’m certain its appearance wasn’t just a random occurrence…. Current events certainly notwithstanding….Anyway, he performed it all three shows closing out this leg and changed the style a bit each night.
In Syracuse, we in the front were all asked to move back off the rail after Masters of War, someone must’ve been filming or something happened at Hershey I didn’t notice but that’s the first time I’ve been moved back(even tho it was just a few feet). It was unfortunate for the people behind us as I’m not a sitter when Bob is performing, y'all talk too much to put my ears at your level anyway …. Sorry guys….
Anyway, Bob closed out the 3 day weekend run for me with a very solid showing, his voice out front on most songs, probably the strongest Watchtower of the run, Love Sick, Desolation Row and Soon after Midnight were other highlights for me. Red Sky continues to be an Outlaw highlight, its easy summery groove and catchy melodies hit well with the festival spirit.
Not to be completely Bob-centric, the Red Clay Strays have continued to impress me, after seeing them open for The Rolling Stones last year, it has been good seeing them a few more times on this tour and am happy to see they are achieving some success. A band worth your time imho
I know Willie was sick for early part of 2024 tour but figured his performances last year were baseline now. I was wrong, I think both his singing his guitar playing we're worlds better this year over last, all 4 shows I saw...
my daughter took this lovely photo:
The real highlight of the night was my daughter finally catching Willies signed hat after multiple shows and years trying, her friend getting a bandanna. She likes Bob but loves Willie…. Thanks Willie, you made her night. Mine too. After the hat he usually throws a few bandannas, I didn't get one of those but he pulled the one off his head and tossed that one and was able to get that too for her friend
His tech gave us his setlist too.....
my Bob recording of Syracuse will be available at some point. Hershey was a good show but the audience is all over that recording so haven't decided if it's worth sharing yet...

Final night of my four show run(unless something crazy pops onto Bobs setlist in September!)
