Rumor has it this will be a big deal. Bobby will be showing up with Jerry's daughters and Trey, and the Torch will be present. At the 3rd peak of Mihali's Jamflowman solo, it will be officially passed to him in a ritual that can only be described as breathtaking. Don't miss this one folks. Only $10.

Is The Torch a band?

One of the Twiddles, Zdenek, used to post on PZ.

Twiddle is great.

I was blown away when I saw them.

Getting Torch'd is a BIG deal, and it's a huge thing. If it's done right, it's planned in advance and it's a huge surpise to the kid in question.

Is it liked "Winged" but for jamband players?

@Twiddlemusic

We were just notified that due to a flight cancelation, Phil Lesh will unfortunately not be able to make it this time. The show must go on!

Thanks for up-to-the-minute reporting, St. Mark. Nothing on TXR.net nor on TXR Facebook yet.

As usual, you heard it here first, folks.

I wonder he was flying from.

Mark's a big Twiddlehead.

I believe they're called Twiddlers, Lance.

The Torch wasn't burning brightly enough this morning. Bad omen, the ceremony has been postponed

I have it on good authority that Phil actually listened to Twiddle's music during his flight earlier today.

I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

I mean let's be honest, Twiddle's set will be better without Phil. They'd have to slow way, way down and play mostly Dead songs, which would be cool, but they're a raging ensemble with killer originals of their own. It was the same way with JRAD (minus the originals, but they still play different stuff).

Phil didn't know the songs that JRAD covers?

No, people seem to believe that he slowed them down too much at the NYE show at the Capital.  As someone who was there I'd like to dispel this once and for all.  It was fantastic.

Tom, get off the drugs.  It was WEAK compared to a regular JRAD experience.

But first, are you J'experienced?  Have you ever been J'experienced? Well, Keith's had...

I LOVED the set that Phil played with Russo, Benevento, Hamilton, and Jason Crosby at TXR a few years ago.

It was fantastically freaky and high speed, ta boot!

I agree with Thom on this particular issue, though admittedly, I didn't listen to the Cap Shows.

I was there for the JRAD shows with Phil too. I've seen JRAD numerous times, and Phil definitely slowed the band down. They were fine shows, I have no regrets about going, but the overall tempo was slower. Whether this was decided before the show, or it just turned out that way, I don't know, but that's how it went down to these ears.

At the risk of upseting Keith further (ducking for cover while I do this), IMHO JRAD was fortunate that Phil played with them.  I agree with Thom2's opinion here.

JRAD plays like GD on steroids.  Such talented musicians, but like what's the hurry Murray.  From what I heard and saw, Phil had no problem keeping up with their pace.  No problem at all.

JRAD has played with each other for a while and have good chemistry together.  They have played music besides GD music, and their talent level is undeniable.  As musicians go, younger musicians tend to enjoy playing with the pedal 2 the metal.  Subtlety is sometimes lost in this process.  I think Phil helped them with that.

Again, just pointing out that music judgment is subjective; Keith has every right to feel the way he does, as does Thom. No right or wrong here.  Whatever floats your boat.

Exactly right Dave.  That's why I'm skipping the old man's bday shows at the Cap and going to all 6 JRAD at Brooklyn Bowl.  That's what currently floats my boat.

And btw, I'm only busting my buddy Tom's balls......he'll be with me at one of the brooklyn bowl shows next week.

Have fun Keith.

The old man's getting on & not playing these parts much anymore, so I'll still see him when I can.

All good smiley

It was Bob's idea to pass the torch, phil missing his flight is a nice way of saying - vetoed

^Aha, the good ole bait-and-switch.  There WERE a number of people trying to sell their tickets when it was announced that Phil was not going to be there.  wink

Keith will you hit he two family band shows between?

Absolutely NOT.  Amateur hour....$70 LOL

i'd rather rather see jrad w/ phil than oteil.

So would I. And Oteil is damn good.
