Brent songs than Vinnie could have handled

2. Gentlemen Start Your Engines

3. Never Trust a Woman

4. We Can Run

that would have been a trainwreck.

I'd be more interested in hearing how Brent would have done Samba or Way to go Home

I second this.

Vince was a B3 guy. Gerry would not let anyone play B3 after Brent died. Was a huge mistake. Vince would have been so much better.

3. Never Trust a Woman

4. We Can Run

Those were great songs, done superbly. 2 of my favorites from that era. .And I like tons of steel a bit too.

But you and I have disagreed on music once or twice in the past.......

Vince should have done White Punks on Dope. Bless his heart.

Well, I was being a bit of a wise guy there, but honestly, We Can Run? Whoosh. Something about dumping my trash in your backyard? That wasn't a piss-break song, that was a get me the fuck out of this building song.

And Never Trust a Woman was OK, kinda' funny lyrics but ultimately just another blues song like Red Rooster or CC Rider, but even with the HIIIIIIIIIIY'S I preferred hearing Weir sing those songs.

I realize I'm probably in the minority here, but overall I never liked Brent singing lead vocals on anything. Especially in those later years his singing was too hammy for me, no subtlety, no filters. People used to say he reminded them of Greg Allman, I'd say maybe Allman on a three day meth bender.

But I shouldn't bag on Brent on his birthday, and I loved him his first five years in the band and I liked him for a couple more, so yay Brent!

I Don't Need Love

Gimme Some Lovin'

Dear Mr. Fantasy

Hey Pocky Way

The thing about Gimme Some Lovin and Tons of Steel is that they are basically Brent/Phil duets and their voices combine in a strikingly beautiful and powerful way... i was trying to think of others that were mostly Brent and Phil, Keep On Growing? Back then the fact that Phil was even singing was a wow moment and then when its Phil and Brent it was cool. I love those songs

They did Gimme some Lovin one time after Brent died

Very true. Encore slot.

I was not aware that Jerry banned the B3 after Brent's passing. Not sure what tunes Vinnie could have done justice to but w a  B3 I'm sure he could have pulled of several.

I like mostly all of Brent's tunes. Tons of Steel is a great song. The Q smoked that tune. Probably better than the GD. Far From Me , Easy To Love You, We can Run, Blow Away, et al are all appealing to me.

they did Gimmie Some Lovin  Vinnie's first show(I think) and it was an absolute train wreck .

Other than White Punks On Dope, other Tubes songs it would have been cool to hear Vince do with the Dead are What Do You Want From Life? and Don't Touch Me There.

Vince also deserves plaudits for bringing the combination Baba O'Reily - Tomorrow Never Knows to the GD repertoire.

Brent was a great player. He brought so much depth to his time with the Dead.

Brent taking Weir down a notch...

"Hey Little Red Rooster, well, you ain't shit to me. You think you're a stud boy, but I don't believe you'll ever be. While you're away I'm going to fuck with your hen house, just me and Maybellene."

Revolutionary Hamstrung Blues

Feel like I'm the only one that liked We Can Run. Lyrics hold up more now than ever but I get that most people prefer lyrics to be ambiguous and Standing on the Moon is in many ways the same song lyrically but yeah Standing is much better song.

You're not the only one, kxela.

I loved Brent's keyboard playing and his vocals. It wasn't specific to a song or two, it was his energy and depth of sound. He and the other guys made beautiful music.

Yeah my first show was May 79 so for me Brent and the Dead were one and the same. Loved Brent.

Same result when D&C launched their 2nd Sphere run w/Gimme Slow Lovin'.  Also one & done, thankfully.

i got a louie louie at one of my 1st shows.

Me too.

When Brent passed I finally understood what all the older people were going on about when they said it just wasn't the same anymore. No shade on Vince or Bruce but without the B3 it was hard for me to sink in plus my last Brent show was Nassau 90 -  for me at least it was never that good again although some post Jerry shows came closest.

It's interesting to me that the kids on Reddit at least who only know Jerry from the historical record gravitate to 72 - 78 and many of them completely ignore anything after that. I understand. It would be hard to just drop in and hear Jerry's voice like. I also suspect they listen to many of those horrible Healy boards that emphasized the whole tinkle criticism. It so didn't sound like that in the hall.
