First time for everything, broken bone edition

Forums:

I’m 77 and never had a broken bone till now. Shockingly, my L1 vertebra is fractured. Really hurts. It’s been about a month since it happened (first noticed while dancing to the Garcia Birthday Band) and I’m hoping it’s healing on its own; I’ll know more as time goes by. X-ray shows a number of crappy changes and I have an MRI scheduled for a couple of weeks.
More info posted upon request.

I’m bummed.

Aaaaalmost 66 here, and I still belong to the never broke a bone club.

Because of that, every year that goes by I dread it a little bit more.

I've decided that if I never get out of my recliner nothing bad can happen to me, so, flawed as that logic is that's what I'm going with.

Take care of yourself Judit, and stop dancing to that damned hippie music!

I probably just need a recliner.

Ouch. What kind of treatment are you getting, judit? Staying off your feet, I'm guessing, and hopefully some pain meds.

I've broken a few bones, starting with my sternum and nose in a car accident when I was 20, and then some broken fingers and my right hand as the years went by. Spine stuff is different though; pain in your core is no fun at all.

100mg Wyld gummies

Bss, for Pain relief? Healing?  Wish you were here.

Thanks for sharing the details, Judit.  Sending ((((healing vibes)))) your way.

When I want to eat gummies, I'm very loyal to the Wyld brand. The elderberry version is the best I've ever tried to help promote deep sleep. I always eat 1/2 as a first step and let it settle, then decide about the rest based on how I feel.

They have developed a lot more flavors since I used to eat them... thought this overview might be helpful:

The best Wyld gummies for pain depend on the type of pain and how you tolerate THC. For targeted relief, try these specific formulations:

For Severe or Nighttime Pain: Elderberry (THC:CBN). Formulated with 10 mg of THC and 5 mg of CBN, these are highly recommended for evening use to relax the muscles, ease chronic tension, and promote sleep.

For Inflammation & Daily Maintenance: Strawberry (20:1 CBD:THC). Each gummy contains 20 mg of CBD and 1 mg of THC. It targets bodily discomfort and inflammation with minimal psychoactive effects.

For Balanced Body & Mind Relief: Pomegranate (1:1 THC:CBD). This offers an equal 5 mg of THC and 5 mg of CBD. THC reduces pain perception, while CBD combats inflammation.

For Muscle Soreness & Migraines: Pear (CBG + Hybrid). These contain 10 mg of THC and 10 mg of CBG, a cannabinoid often called "the mother of all cannabinoids" due to its reported anti-inflammatory and restorative effects

Thank you, LLOLLO.
I haven't ingested any in years since I didn't like the feelings I got, but it's been a long time and it might be so helpful that it would be OK. Todd (Moses) Is up for a shopping trip for me tomorrow if that's what I want/need.

Mike, you asked about meds and for now I've been taking OTC analgesics and an Rx or two.when is a muscle relaxant and I think I'd rather have a gummy for that. Oh my.

I just had the thought that a piece of pie with vanilla ice cream would probably be beneficial, too, but I'm gonna wait on that one

You start in on the gummies and you're gonna' need a lot of pie & ice cream.

Better have Todd shop for that too.

Ultimately, the gummie/pie/ice cream regimen has to be better on multiple levels than any pharmaceutical options.

It will have an untowardeffect on my blood sugar, said the diabetic.

Dammit.

Well, maybe just looking at pictures of pie & ice cream then.

I'd still go with the gummies.

This sucks, Judit. I hope you heal fast.

Sorry to read about this Judit, I've broken an elbow and an ankle and it ain't no fun!   Wishing you a speedy recovery with minimal discomfort!  Cheers!

No broken bones either, but 3 concussions. Explains a thing or three. Hope you heal well, judit.  I have gummies that contain 15mg of CBN along with thc / cbd.  The CBN helps significantly with a good night's sleep.

Judit, best wishes for a full and fast recovery!

Bummer, Judit. Hopefully pain relief finds you soon, howeever you get there.

57, never had a broken bone but I do need a full shoulder replacement. Severe OA, bone on bone.

I can manage the pain and inflammation with gummies and nutraceuticals, but I have no range of motion and it's fucking up my QoL. I can't even ride my motorcycle right now, let alone play tennis or canoe. I had just started to do reps at 315 too (humble brag), and a fear my days of benching are long gone. There's no good time to plan on recovery from that surgery.

(((((bone healing vibes)))))

Sorry to hear this Judit.  Hoping you will have a steady and pain free recovery from your back injury. If there is interest maybe we can have a diabetes thread as I have just joined that club :-(

>Wyld gummies, a solid brand around for a long time and now available in east coast dispensaries.

Bone density test couldn't hurt

Prolia may be in your future

sorry to hear this>>>quickest densest healing

Sorry this has happened to you Judit. If there is anything I can do, don't hesitate.

Lately I have been eating 150 mg cookies. My cookies are sweetened with Allulose, and your body does not process it as sugar.

Broken ankles, leg, wrists, and a few ribs.

Can you do tincture?

FIrst of all, thanks to all for your ideas, thoughts, information, sweetness.

I could use some help in addition to LLOLLO's list. Pertinent facts: I hate to shop and get easily overwhelmed - like how do I know what ratio will be helpful? I liked that one of the Wyld offerings mentioned being less psychoactive, mild sounds good. Bss, thoughts? Shopping by Todd tomorrow.
LLOLLO's list showed one - Strawberry (20:1 CBD:THC) - with minimal psychoactive effects. I don't usually like berry flavored things but I would try it. I can get high separately.
She also mentioned for Severe or Nighttime Pain: Elderberry (THC:CBN, that sounds like a good fit because the pain can be severe, and it's day and/or night.
So, thoughts?  I can ask at the dispensary, but wondering what I need to think about.

Today a caring Zoner asked, "how did you sleep and what’s your pain level today?" I declined to quantify because my knee jerk reaction is to not focus on the details, experiencing it is enough. It's happening and that's what's going on. The answers were: My sleep was weird, went to sleep and woke up after an hour or so but I don't remember getting out of bed. My back was not in spasm, a real relief from what's been going on when I get out of bed lately. I went back to sleep/bed a couple of times, woke up and was able to get out of be without bad spasms, and didn't feel rested. We'll see how tonight is.

rn (terrapin1977) I've had yearly bone scans/bone density testing for the last 5 years during hormone-blocking therapy for breast cancer. I do have mild osteopenia, but it's improving naturally. No osteoporosis, it looks good.

Mike, I haven't been able to start the PT - I'm looking forward to it but the spasms were preventing it. That's the only treatment for now, at least til we know more after the MRI in a couple weeks. Getting better...

China-Rider, argh. Welcome to the fucking club. I was diagnosed in 2004, lots of info, lots of changes since then. Take care. Get in touch if you'd like.

Love to all of you. I feel yours.

A 20-1 ratio might be good, but I think a 5 or 10 to one might be better.  The high effects from the THC are greatly reduced by the CBD.   THC grabs on to your Endocannabinoid receptors for its effect. One of the CBD's jobs is to regulate the THC/receptors and they(CBD molecules) run around kicking the THC off their receptors. Full extract CBD from organic Hemp is the way to go for your CBD.  CBD is a huge anti- inflamatory, among other things,  and THC is a good pain killer among other things. Hope this helps.

Appreciate your explanation MarkD, thanks!
I seem to be very sensitive to edibles.
I like that I can depend on this brand when I do need to medicate.

I know a dispensary in SE Portland that discounts them by 30% every Monday.

Thank you, Mark, very helpful.

Just saw your tincture question, Dise. Yes, mostly. When I quit smoking for lung health, I went to tinctures that I made. I still have some. It's my old favorite strain, blue dream. I kind of forgot about it, Could be worth a try

>>>they(CBD molecules) run around kicking the THC off their receptors<<<

So Mark, if I take a CDB dose in the morning, and then I have a puff in the afternoon, are those CDB molecules going to bum my high?

Not sure, but I think think CBD stays active for about 5 hrs,

I understand that I was confused at my last post. It's using the CBD with the THC that is what I'm looking for. there are a couple of dispensaries who carry Wyld not far from my house that have reputations for being helpful and educational, it sounds like what I'll need.

I really do want to try this and see if I can get some relief.

Hope you feel better soon, judit!

I second the Elderberry Wyld recommendation - very good for sleep, too.

Thanks, Zooey. I'm going to go with the Elderberry for now, hope it helps.

i've been getting information and it according to the dispensary people, boysenberry is like the elderberry with the addition of CBD, which would make it more effective for pain. that sounds even better for me since pain is a big part of what I need to address.

Well that is a bummer.   Hope you heal up soon and that the gummies help.

Don't worry Judit cause everything is broken...

Judit,
The boysenberry formulation is new -- wasn't aware of that one!
Their website is well designed with filters to help figure out and compare the products -- was surprised to see how many they are offering now!

I'm guessing this is old news, but just in case, magnesium is an element in our diet that most adults are deficient of, and it is very important for bone health. I take a magnesium glycinate supplement daily ( or when i remember ;)

Truckin' – I'm a going home
Whoa, whoa, baby, back where I belong
Back home, sit down and patch my bones
And get back truckin' on

The days go by, the nights go by, too. I tried the Boysenberry gummies and didn't like the part of feeling high from the inside out (that's how I think I feel when I've ingested it.) Also felt "hung over". So, I tried a couple of configurations and found that I do better without it, at least for now.

I'm sleeping an hour or so after I go to bed, then up for a few, then I lie down again, rinse and repeat. I've been pretty disoriented and I'm begin to feel a little more rested, hoping that will continue. The pain can get pretty intense and I'm doing my best to keep keepin' on.

Thanks for all of your help and thoughts, contributions toward my well-being.

Thanks for the update, Judit!
I hope you started w/ 1/2 gummie.
I know exactly what you mean by feeling high from the inside out -- I don't always care for that either, but depends on the strain.
Good to hear your sleep and rest sessions are improving -- that's important for healing.

heart

I actually started with an 1/8th or something like that, LLOLLO. Was it you who said you're pretty sensitive to them? I must be, too.

Take care, all.

Thanks for the update, judit. I was wondering about you and your lumbar region. Sorry to hear the gummies didn't work. Have you tried any THC cremes or lotions?

I haven't tried any THC creams or lotions, Mike. it could happen. I may try an arnica cream. That sounds good.

Yep, that was me. :)
