We has a lot of thunder and lightning to the east of Seattle yesterday morning that sparked up some fires. Not surprising considering how dry it's been. Smoke-free for now..

They are throwing lot's of
They are throwing lot's of money at the problem in CA. My friend lives up by Placerville in the foothills. She is a grant writer by trade and she has gotten millions for her fire district and has made herself very popular with her MAGA neighbors. They have completely masticated the undergrowth all around her property and they are in the process of putting all the power lines underground. Then there was another huge round of grants that just closed last week for applying. Hopefully it can help.

There was a 5 acre fire just on the other side of the volcano yesterday. They jumped on it and got it handled, but yeah, tis the season.

They're gradually replacing
They're gradually replacing wood powerline poles with metal where I live. We're a small community, and I don't see them ever going underground, but in the spring the sky fills with drones, followed by contract tree workers clearing out branches that are close to the lines.

Stunning that we didn't have more fires start in my area from that round of lightning. So far, nothing has "lit up" in timber, thankfully. But it's just the start of fire season...

Spoke too soon, plenty of fires popped up, and some in the North Central/East are in the timber. The forecast indicates we might have another round of lightning coming.

We had one start this
We had one start this afternoon on Blewett Pass. Highway 97 is closed there and just below Yakima too due to fire. The other big fires, Little Giant and Kaiser, made epic wind-driven runs today.
It's just the beginning of August, so we have a long way to go.

I'm monitoring weather in Darrington, WA area as many friends are there for the Re-Evolution festival through Sunday.
Just don't know how those singers will protect their throats and perform!

One would think 3247 would cause respiratory failure in short order, or a heart attack?
Winds return on Friday here. That will blow the smoke out for some but fuel fire growth.

We have thick smoke obscuring
We have thick smoke obscuring my view of the trees less than 1/4 mile in back of my house. In 2020 it was much thicker and stronger smelling, but it's here, now .
