The periodic table of elements symbol for Lead is Pb short for "Plombium" as it was a popular material for water pipes, for many years.

Very difficult to acquire decent Lead pipe these days.

Yep, I immediately think of CA condors when I hear about lead bullets.  Majestic birds who very nearly went extinct.  Bummer.

I'm venturing to guess we'll eventually find out that the Fire Retardant chemicals present in almost everything we're in contact with (auto interiors, clothing, furniture, insulation, etc, etc) are way worse for us & the environment than a lot of the Traditional Love Canal style Bug a Boo's (lead, asbestos, pcb's, etc).

Fire retardant chemicals have already been identified as carcinogenic and are likely neurotoxins too.

Yes indeed I should have stated that it's already known they're "bad", what I was trying to get across (but failed) is that, say, if you ask the "man on the street", they'll probably not have any idea, but probably DO know about Lead, Asbestos, PCB's, etc.

Funny you should ask, because, I recently Deduced that it was @ Mtn Jam 3rd night 2013, exactly when those Avett Bros fans filmed me getting my Autistic Twerk on, & uploaded it to You Tube.  It all makes perfect sense, around that time I still had a pill type tab left over from years ago (was supposedly "good stuff" made in Denmark with the hula girl stick figure), & I'd already, um, "indulged" in other "favors" the 2 nights previous (Panic/Mule), so I probably used up that last x pill to vary my buzz.  As everyone could see, that "x" stuff has the exact opposite effect on me than it does on "normal" people, ie, I get all Aggro & Negative, not Warm & Fuzzy & Horny.  So yeah, I'm never doing that stuff ever again . . .

Most of my furniture is antique stuff, however I have a couple futon frames from the 1990's. They are Pine or Doug Fir, pretty basic stuff.

And my dishwasher machine is 2000 + era, but I'm looking to upgrade.

My tube amps are not coated in flame-retardant chemicals, but they could probably start a decent Fire, if something acted funny.

I had a small batch of "Bath-Salts" back when, and they were totally Awesome. Not the Chinese synthetic speed, but actual stuff you put in the Bathtub. They were "Kniepp" brand or similar, from Germany.

They were orange-colored crystals, and made for a nice relaxing Bath. What struck me is that the Bath-Salt & Warm Water combo did a tremendous job of cleaning the Bathtub of Iron scale.

Imagine how much Lead and other heavy metals those crystals chelated out of my skin.

Flint Lefties thought lead was just fine for the people. Not sure what you're all bent out of shape about?

As someone who has actually designed water supply infrastructure, I can attest that the Flint MI situation is fairly commonplace thruout the US, especially in the "older" northeast/rust belt cities.  Lead pipes & more commonly lead joint gaskets were used in the late 1800's/early 1900's fairly commonly & are still in place pretty much everywhere.

The Flint issue reads/sounds like a pissing match between various city's water authorities over the source of the water, and there was certainly an Engineering failure in not dealing with treatment which has to take into account lead leaching from old pipes (I've encountered this problem before myself, & it's fairly complicated Chemistry which has to do with the how and where, and not just type of treatment).

This resulting situation more likely has to do with the personalities of those on the boards of the authority's (I've had projects stalled for years because of such problems).  They typically tend to be old men, lawyers, judges, engineers, etc, and even if the city they serve is highly Democrat, they tend to lean conservative (again, based on my experience in my state.  YMMV).  So am not really sure how this is a clear cut left/right issue.  But I guess everything is.  *sigh*.  It's more about human nature and institutional dysfunction.  I know it's hard for Partisans on both sides to grasp, but Gov't agencies are Technocrats who serve whatever party is in power, and who provide a Continuum of knowledge base when administrations change.  Belive me, I've been thru many party changes in the Gov & legislature in my 32 year career.  I sure pity any Fed employees going thru the transition to the new Trump regime considering how hostile they are to the in place bureaucracy.

Again, urban areas with old water systems again are primarily Democratic.  Perhaps we should blame Eisenhauer for building the interstate highway system that allowed whites to flee to the suburbs leaving these cities primarily minority/democrat?  I'm not saying that I do, but it's as equally preposterous and counter productive as singling out democrats now.
