My coolest moment with Steel Pulse was in 2008 @ the Stone Pony. Me & my buddy left a wedding to catch the show. Got to the door just in time to talk to David Hinds & Selwyn Brown before they took the stage. Great night in Asbury Park!
I listened to and saw Steel Pulse a lot through the 80s, 90s and oughts, but I am not as passionate as I once was for them. To my ears, their sound suffered after the loss of Grizzly on drums, and I never cared for their forays into Dancehall and away from Roots Reggae.
While I still dig Handsworth Revolution and Tribute To The Martyrs, even such classic records of theirs that I once played relentlessly, such as True Democracy and Earth Crisis, and to a lesser extent, Babylon The Bandit, sound trite to me now. Their sound became Reggae-Lite, or Smooth Reggae, if you will.
For 80s Reggae, I much prefer listening to Augustus Pablo, Burning Spear, Toots and The Maytals, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Alpha Blondy and John Holt.

Just my two cents.
