I stayed at the Stamford Hilton for the Nov. '15 Cap run.
I considered it not nice but tolerable. The tub backed up when I took a shower, and that was my biggest complaint. I'd be willing to stay there again, although this run I'm staying at the Philton (totally out of character move for me); my girlfriend is coming along.
There's a beer store a couple blocks from the Stamford La Q, and the restaurant attached to the motel had some good food I thought (so did my buddy). I had a bleu cheese and spinach omelette, and being that I still remember what I ate, it must have been a decent meal. The restaurant don't look like much, but it seemed full of locals, which is probably a good sign.
I remember thinking the other day that the Stamford La Q was about half the price of what we're paying for a Philton room.
When we don't do a home or apartment rental, we stay at either the La Quinta or the Hyatt House in White Plains, all dependent on the number of peeps in the traveling party.
Have stayed many times at La Quinta. It is more than adequate for purposes required. If you need some "hang space", try to get the rooms with a Queen and sleeper sofa. You do get what you pay for though so adjust expectations accordingly. The "free breakfast" is very basic. There is a big diner attached to the hotel which draws a big local crowd. The hotel will give you a 10% discount coupon.
Hyatt House is much more expensive like most of the other hotels. However, it's free breakfast is substantial. Often, members of the "Friends" stay there. Have met multiple over the years.
Staying at Hyatt House this run because we've got 5 and we pile into their 2 BR Trio where we expect to chill and watch NCAA hoops for the big Thursday-Friday games.
I am at the Hyatt House also...:) Got a great deal by booking early...it also is a suite so it has a full kitchen it says. Thanks for input as this is first time staying there.

Stamford Hilton is dirt cheap on weekends, really, really nice, and a 5 minute walk to the train station.

^^^^I think they gave us some
^^^^I think they gave us some kind of discount ticket for the restaurant when we checked in, so if you stay there, ask front desk.

Hyatt House is always
Hyatt House is always tempting, my friend stays at La Quinta and swears by it, sorry for the late reply on that.
We keep going back to the Philton for the shuttle and the amount of zoners that stay there, well worth it.
I remember thinking the other day that the Stamford La Q was about half the price of what we're paying for a Philton room. >>>
sounds about right
