Another smoker!

From Pete Costello:

Few Thoughts:
So wonderful to be welcomed back to the old home place (Brooklyn in general & Brooklyn Bowl specifically) by so many friends & friendly faces. If at some some point I hurried past you on my way to either the stage or to FOH, my apologies for my rush. As you can imagine, there's lots of moving parts during nights like these, so no offense intended.

I think pound for pound, this band (with either Dave or Oteil holding down the low end) can hang with any BBOTP (Best Band On The Planet) contender. I'm not saying they are the biggest, or the most popular, or the most original, & by no means am I saying they are the "Best". But in terms of the skill sets that a given band can have, I do think they score towards the top in creativity, musicianship, ensemble playing - the dexterity to listen to each other & in turn not step on anyone's toes - connection to each other, connection to the material, connection with the audience, dynamics and the art of not playing when appropriate. As I'm sure most of you will attest, they also feature the know-how to take themselves & us on a journey, and the often understated mastery of building into said journeys a overwhelming amount of twists, turns, chance taking, stuck landings, roller coaster emotions, adroit control of the energy in a room & a nimble quickness that continues to surprise me night after night.

At the end of the day, how they are judged by others on such factors means little to me. However, the amount of joy that this band helps create, foster, impact & spread means the world to me. To get to play some small role in assisting in that process makes me such a lucky person. Its pretty wonderful to regularly find myself in a place filled with so many people who exude happiness, just because they find themselves exactly where they want to be.

Thanks so much to all of you - you guys & the Bowl created & defined the environment that allowed all of this stuff to happen in the first place & then to grow into what its is now.

Finally, on the subject of talkers at shows - I think the "There for the music" contingent won the battle this time: No Brooklyn Bowl audience I've ever experienced before showed the respect or self control that we witnessed tonight during the encore. It was literally pin-drop quiet for both Brokedown & Bid you Good Night, & I most of us recognized how special & unexpected that reaction was.

Here's what I got...
