When I was in college @ West VA Univ in the early '80's, the "alternative" scenes were so small that all 3 scenes (Deadheads/Hippies, Punks, & Gays) had to share the same bar in the Slummiest part of town (away from the actual college bars). This being pre-internet days, there was always some confusion over whose scene's night it was, so there was often some humorous cross-contamination of scenes. Inevitably, the Gays would always hit on the skinny little hippie boys. I was a hippie but was thankfully Ugly (but not yet Fat). I used to love it when the punks already paid their cover price & it was my friend's GD cover band, who used to change their name every gig in order to attract paying customers, they'd be trying to slam dance to the 1st number, which was often hard to discern whether it was Aiko, NFA, Minglewood, or Know You Rider. During the Falklands War, I contributed their "name of the week": "C Harrier & the Jump Jets"

Shit some dude asked him to DANCE with him at a Hot Tuna acoustic show in Ventura. Corny motherfucker. AYFKM who dances to that?! I laughed my ass off. Gay dudes weren't interested in him at all.

Even though he was kind of a deadhead he was way more of a surfer guy than a "little hippie boy". His mom is Hawaiian and his dad Scandinavian so he ended up with super blonde hair, green eyes, and a perma-tan. He was a super-athletic, active surfer, so the sun bleached his hair even lighter. Men just assumed he was a hot athletic woman working the natural look..Oddly enough he often sported that utterly stupid look on his face like that girl's head shot, I think it's a surfer thing. FWIW He was hot for a guy too, in the 80's lololol
