... by definition acknowledged he was an "evil" of one form or another prior to voting for him, yet most still defend him as if he isn't "evil" ... even in light of many troubling developments.
How old were you when Garcia died, timmyhoffman? Like 10? 11? Just wondering. I gathered I think from a recent thread, you're not one of us oldies.
True he was a guitar player, true he used the bad drugs. Those two activities were not the complete definition of him though. He was also tapped into the deep spring that runs under us, and channeled vibes from it, helping the fortunate few become connected with its waters - on levels farrrrrrrr beyond which that which we would ever have a right to expect. Or know about, enough to expect.
That's as good a reason as any to care about his opinions. Not that he was any kind of oracle or heaven forbid, leader (most certainly not by desire). Definitely a respectable person, by my definition, idk how others feel about that. Well, I know how some others feel about that, and they do happen to agree with me but they're not any kind of representative sample. He's looking awfully respectable in retrospect, that's for sure! Even the living members are! I guess when you get to be an old guy. Who would've imagined?
gtg it's my kid's convocation later on, which is in Brooklyn, I'm still upstate, sigh
I was 17 and that doesn't change the fact that Jerry wasn't a junkie. And the fact that he was a junkie doesn't mean I don't highly revere the guy and think he was a wonderful human.. And none of that changes the fact that Jerry wasn't a very good political compass.
>>>>>>>I just think it's strange to imply that that is the other most important thing about him.
I wasn't implying it was one of the most important things about him. But I think it is relevant to his decision making process. And really being a junkie was a huge part of who Jerry was (it takes over your life) if you believe anything anyone close to him says.
Jerry was a killer guitar player that wrote a ton of great songs. There isn't much else about the guy that I respect. I didn't need the GD to help me form a moral or political compass.
As far as the thread topic --- the 'lesser of two evils' mindset is juvenile at best.
Jerry stayed out of politics and never wanted to br ANY kind of leader. I think those are good traits in a human. Plus he could (can) make my eyes well up with emotion simply by singing.
Im done talking lesser of two evils though. i did too much post election, sorry.

He did say it:
Do you vote?
No.
Why?
I don't feel there's anything to vote for yet. Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil.

Thanks. Never seen the actual quote.
He was a good guitar player. Also a junkie. Probably not the best person to get political advice from.
