..I asked my kid's Mom to proofread an email the other day and her feedback was "It's really well written; why do you still put two spaces after a period? That's changed".
It's like the Oxford comma. I was taught to do it that way. I have tried to break myself of that habit because it sometimes causes odd spacing in the digital age, but it's a hard habit to break.
Yes. However, with auto formatting and block justified text in Word, its hard to keep up with it and sometimes I just don't have the time to go back and ensure proper double spacing after each sentence. Oh well.
I've been genuinely curious. Partially due to the fact I'm being considered for a new position and have been emailing the potential employer- who's background includes a minor in English.
I write and edit a lot for work so I've gotten used to the single space after a period but it was a tough habit to break! I still sometimes double space. Never really thought about it lol
in high school(over 25 years ago), a fellow students dad was from a long line of typesetters, and he came in and gave a presentation on why one space only, leaving everyone in the class with a document to take with them for the rest of their academic career to present to anyone who marked their single space as an error. it created some problems with all my short sighted tenured professors in liberal arts. my architecture professors loved it, because it set a precedent and was historical in nature.
always a full stop after all punctuation, including the end of a sentence.
similar to using quotations vs. italics for a proper noun, two full stops is a relic from the typewriter era.

Some of us are relics from that typewriter era. (quotations vs. italics?)
I'm one of those relics. I should walk over to the design dept. (all of 10 steps away), and ask them what they think. I've gradually come around to using a single space, but I used 2 forever after learning it in typing class.

Define full stop. I'm guessing one space as you only spaced once after your comma.
