Berkeley Breathed (Bloom County) hears from Trump's lawyer

Forums:

I haven't found the offensive material, but this letter arrived. Could someone find what was so terrible? Thanks.

"have your .... in a sling by lunch"

What is the missing word?

lol I don't think that's authentic..

>> probably just satire.

That would be fine if it wasn't of a commercial nature. Fair use doesn't apply here.

fuck em if they can't take a joke

That's probably true according to this article on the subject:

But the cease and desist letter, by itself, is great advertising.   I didn't even know Bloom County was still around until I saw this thread.

This is vastly oversimplified, but basically Trump is a public figure and can't object to Bloom County's satirical use of him in the strip's content. First Amendment, d'oh.

However, the use of his image in ads is something he can protect. A lot of FB ads do this - photoshop their t-shirt on a famous actor or other public figure. The public figure can make them stop doing this.

It came back, Ken.

Fake (or claimed so by journalist who claims to have talked to Kasowitz):

The story has been reported on Uproxx with no hint of irony, but a brief glance at the letter shows that Donald Trump’s supposed lawyers used the phrase “we will have your **** in a sling by lunch,” which, even for Donald Trump — yes, we know — but even for Donald Trump, is unlikely to be something put into a real cease and desist letter. In a tweet, sure. In a speech at the Holocaust Museum? Absolutely. But not in a legal letter. That’s almost certainly the one thing he’s good at!

Lots of Google references now, including some very good critiques of the writing style. Snopes had nothing.

Okay then

The white out is great, as are the quotation marks smattered about. Eat your heart out, Steve Dallas.
