Actually went on the brewery tour at Busch Gardens when I was in 5th grade. Thought it was pretty cool. Course free samples at the end were adult only.
Far as concerts, my 2 biggest concerns would be volume & ahem, air quality. Outdoors is probably best, but went to my first GD show at the Spectrum when I was just under 13 so maybe that's a bit hypocritical on my part. But I don't have kids either.
We did the Bush Gardens when my kids were little, and at the time it was the unlimited large glasses of beer, not the dixie cups they hand out now. After a couple of hours on moring kid rides for my children I started telling them, we're going to go ride the budweiser now, but only Dad can ride. Daddy whats the budweiser, we want to go on with you. No only dad can ride the Budweiser. I pouded down about three Amber Bocks and then took the kids back out to the rides again A couple hours later, I started the we're going to ride the budweiser again, and got the "awe thats no fun", and yes my wife was the designated driver.
We inadvertantly timed a trip to Islands of adventure during a beer fest. On that day I didn't drink but had the kids playing the game of who can find the drunkest person and we all enjoyed that
Yeah, that "Fuck Nazis" one is a bit inappropriate, but the toddlers holding the anti-abortion signs, calling people murderers and saying they will burn in hell, is worse.
Just saw that an old acquaintance decided to bring his family and have photographs taken, with and 7&8 year olds at a Robert Hunter show at a night club by me. The tickets clearly say "adults only". No wonder, Robert Hunter isn't so eager to tour. Was Barney the opener that night?
You know I almost typed Tijuana but really it's good for children to experience different cultures and there are plenty of family fun oriented things to do there.
Brunch? Would have to disagree on that one. Brunch is open season.
I would add...
1. French Restaurants
2. The bleachers at Fenway during a weekend Yankees series
3. Your longstanding and well intentioned friend who invites you and your kids over for a BBQ at at home where he's been house sitting but when you arrive you find out he's forgotten to buy any food but has been ingesting sassafras and Johnnie Walker since the late morning and is cranking John Hiatt too loudly while attempting to weave a sermon about Jesus, Trey and the 1998 Phish Vegas run and your kids, even though they're young, are like what the hell is going in here and can we go.
>You know I almost typed Tijuana but really it's good for children to experience different cultures and there are plenty of family fun oriented things to do there.
No. Just no.
I made the mistake of taking our then 8 year old there. We were in San Diego to visit Legoland and hit the beaches..our kid liked trains, so we hopped on board and headed to Mexico for the day, kid wanted to practice his Spanish and get an authentic Mexican meal. nothing in Tijuana is authentic, not even the Zebras ;)
The taqueria reeked of the previous night's frat parties, the stench of the vomit in the bathrooms still refresh, and the vendors tried to give us change in counterfeit bills that they obviously can pass off to the drunks. getting in line to cross back over the border, there was a bloody fight and accusations of rape - custom officials dragged them all out of line, including the dense tourist who was recording it all.
Then getting grilled by the custom officials because our kid referred to me as Nancy instead of 'Mom' - they separated us until he explained that I really was his mother. And lectured him about showing his mother more respect. Lol.
he still has the $10 Mexican blanket he bought himself and a good story to tell, so maybe it's not all bad.
I think it's good for my kids to see poverty and experience a place like TJ. Were you hoping for a resort town when you went? Also, I assume Dave has only been down there to visit a brothel and I wouldn't take my kids to one of those.
There are plenty of museums, art galleries, and parks to visit. There are good restaurants there too.

> Were you hoping for a resort town when you went?
Not at all, we were staying at Paradise Point resort in San Diego, and ready for an adventure - I should have known that border towns are not a good representation of any country's culture.
The store fronts are all a facade and the guys working the large operations were literally dragging us in. No joke, but I was glad our kid had martial arts training, he was able to get out of their grips. he also was a coin collector and it was pretty funny when he spotted the fake one dollar bills. nothing wrong with some culture, but this wasn't real Mexican culture, but border town crap.
One could argue that there's some culture at the Methadone clinics too. I think there's some 'culture' that kids don't need to be exposed to. Your kids, your choice. I wouldn't visit Tijuana again, with or without kids in tow. other places in Mexico, sure - just not the border towns.
that's good. on one hand, it wouldn't suck to be a "kid" these days. you have access to any period/style/genre of music that you want to see if it's your thang. on the other hand, it would suck to be a "kid" these days. your name could be shazad butt.

Wrong on all accounts, Rockford. I've never been to Tijuana, Mexico, a brothel, or solicited the services of a prostitute.
As far as TJ, the closest, I ever got was Chula Vista, to see The Dead in 2004. The closest I got to Mexico was about half a mile from the border crossing in El Paso in early 1996. I was alone, and it seemed sketchy, so I decided not to cross over the bridge.

Before I was a parent I was very anti kids at breweries. Now I feel if they have gumball machines and things geared for kids it's fair game.
Most concerts I agree, though my daughters first concert was Mojo Nixon and I smuggled vodka in in Baby bottles (kids are great for smuggling).
I haven't taken my kids to a distillery, strip club, or dispensary though.
