I hope you see this, Johnny D!

i grabbed some extras in case some people need

will be a cool light show!

Dawn Holliday, the longtime booking agent who organizes the music for the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival at Golden Gate Park in October, is curating the lineup, which is being billed as an “almost four-hour jam” with members of Bob Weir’s RatDog and Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Family Band, and Moonalice.

Thank you for the timely alert Roshambo! See you there.

Yes, thanks Ro!!!

I saw something about this on facebook, but didn't pay much attention to it.

Glad that you posted this on the only site that really matters.  wink

The light show looks worthwhile, I LOVE that shit, but I'm feeling kind of meh about the music lineup. Still, free is always good laugh

All the Boots Houston people are completely unhinged about this event since their permit was denied twice by SF Park and Rec dipshits.

Yeah I saw something about that, Trebs. I'm inclined to agree with their position when I see the lineup is composed mostly of musicians who weren't even alive yet in '69. That said, it's free so..any show is better than none at all, I guess. Maybe Carlos will turn up to play a set with Frieburg and Cassady. Haha remember when you needed a baseball bat to keep Carlos from performing in the park?

Boots was done in by APE. Another Planet has a monopoly on the park with Outside Lands, plus they run BGCC for the city. I'd wager they didn't wan a free event in SF competing for and siphoning people from their 50th anniversary of Monterey Pop; especially given the weak lineup. The Boots people scream parks and rec, but follow the money. APE and the HSBG folks put cash in the city coffers.....2B1 productions does not. Right or wrong.....and it is wrong......those are the facts.

The Boots Houston quorum will be appealing the 2nd SOL Celebration permit denial on Thursday June 15th at 10:00 am in City Hall room 416.

This is their running game plan:

•  We have a right to congregate (1st amendment)
 • We are entitled to use the parks as San Franciscan’s
 • We have produced 3 major events in the Golden Gate Park with no problems (last one in 2009) we have proven we can promote a safe event and have done so 3 times.

The city’s onerous demands and conditions include:

• We cannot use volunteers
• We must hire someone to run the event from a list compiled by the Permits Department
• We are not allowed to post the event date
• We cannot advertise the concert until given permission
• You must have a paid web master

SF Permits Department horrendous actions:

• Intentionally delaying– application started 18 months ago.
• Requiring us to adhere to different standards than other applicants
• Privatizing access to the ‘commons’ not allowing us use of a public park
• Denying local community groups while permitting large corporations
• Imposing outrageous permit fees and costs in the hundreds of thousand
• Refusing to meet with volunteer leaders, and denying us due process

I for one think this all boils down to the douche-baggery of SF bureaucrats and more specifically:
Phil Ginsburg - General Manager of SF Park and Rec who also ruined the good time that was Strawberry Music Fest at Camp Mather.

So much angst over such a piddling event.

I suppose it's possible that APE could have a problem with it, but I just don't see how whatever this Boots guy would put together would have a noticeable affect on APE's Monterey shows or that they'd care that much about it.

The long history of SF douchebag bureaucrats is well documented and I'm sure that's at the root of the issue. Boots probably just couldn't come up with enough cash to slip under the table.

It's too bad for him, but honestly for me this free show sounds a little better than whatever would have happened otherwise, and if anyone has hopes of any significant performers participating, Dawn Holliday is a MUCH deeper & connected booker than Boots and his team could ever hope to be.

Ultimately all this negativity is probably the most accurately representative way to "celebrate" the Summer of Love. If you strip away all the fluff and revisionist history, that summer really was all about the negative turn and the end of whatever was good about what had been happening for a few years in SF.

Still, I'm sure that those who go will have a good time. David Freiberg & Friends will rock the park.

Our Summer of Love Celebration is better than your Summer of Love Celebration.....

Sold out.

Summer Of Handwringing

On a fuckin' Wednesday? Like, way uncool man. sad

Moonalice?  Really?   They suck.

Between Roger McNamee's $ and Dawn Holiday's booking connects, it looks like Boots Huston just got scooped....

No ticket necessary?

Didn't they just give them out?

I had to register.

2017 the summer of litigation and hate!

I'm guessing the registration was just some sinister plot.  The detention wagons should be circling your homes soon for your free ride to Concentration Moon.

i attended the Surrealistic Superjam at the Fillmore back in January.  I guess that was a precursor to this show.  LEBO was the musical director for that too.  That show was a little odd as it started out as a private party award show for music industry.types out of LA? There were tables set up in back of the floor and men in tuxes and women in evening gowns, etc. weird

Going in a thought we were going to get a full rendering of "Surrealistic Pillow", but I think they only ended up playing a few songs off it and mixed in other psychedelic hits from the 60's.

I remember a rather loud vocal member of the audience wondering out loud multiple times during the show whether this was Corporate Americas's take on the 'Sumer of Love'  Again weird..

nathan-detroit are you someone we might remember from the PZ?

Moon Alice is a fine band, that features people we like here.

That makes a lot of sense.

But also, Phil Ginsburg is NO FRIEND to the people of San Francisco (those that remain). We hope someday we can get our public parks back from the money to the, you know, public.

Gorgeous weather for this event

taking off to SF after 2

It must have been a fun day!

Nice pictures Ro, sounds like a great afternoon in the park.

Wow. Great photographs. The bands and Viva fans look so happy.

That first one with Steve Kimock & Jack is a nice one.

{So, I guess that rules out Steve Kimock from being at Leslie's show tonight}

That was a really fun show in the park! Well produced, grooves sounds and a great vibe!

so kimock and lesh were on the same stage???

just the wrong lesh........:)

It's progress though! They played an excellent Viola Lee Blues. Papa would have been proud.
