It's a really nice guitar, but it doesn't sound a bit like Jerry.  Way too thin and no "round" tone at all.

I'd concur - it sounds too "reedy," for lack of a better word.

I routinely see many "pretenders," play GD music and tend to enjoy most of them.

I think Mayer - when he goes deep into stuff like Slipknot or Dew can be pretty inspiring for what it's worth.

I've long since given up my thinking that no one can touch Garcia.  No one can - but I'll take what I can get when it's good.

I don't expect him to sound like Garcia- but as previously mentioned- his sound was very "thin" at the Usana show last week.

I know a lot of peeps here detest Mayer and a lot of others detest Creepy Stu Allen and others still aren't fans of Scott Law, or RMF James or Lebo and blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda, but we get what we get in this post-Jerry time.

Last Friday night I went to see Mars Hotel at Ashkenaz in Berkeley and Stu was laying it down beautifully - albeit with a reduced band: a quartet.

It was sorta like Grateful Dead repertoire as if it were performed by the Jerry Band - though that's a trite characterization.

My friend works at PRS, makes the guitars (dont know bout JM's), and he basically said we dont know nuttin but our own opinions. We all got them. He said dont forget preferrred effects and mix and house sound, or the preference of the artist or the ear of the listener. So many variables to point at the gutar alone.
