The trumpanze's who think it was so horrible in this country for the last 8 years should pay attention. Fuckin clueless as to how bad it could get . And bannon and company have stated that is what they want to drive this government over the cliff.
Well Willie, it seems it me that you're more on the side of chaos then not. As recent events have shown, it's the left that is fomenting violence in this country these days. And Venezuela isn't descending into a hellish nightmare because of anything the right has done. What you're seeing in the above photograph is the wages of socialism, not capitalism.
I hadn't intended this thread to have anything to do with contemporary politics in the U.S., but since you insist on injecting it I feel the need to correct it.
The more turmoil in the world, the more this brainless wonder feels a if he can maximize his profits from his illegal investments and distract from his own corruption investigations.
The story attached to the gnarly photo indicates it is a mob burning a robber. Vigilante justice with little to do with politics.
It is true the country is going to hell in a hand basket and there are daily street battles between protesters and forces loyal to embattled president Maduro, but it is falling world oil prices, and not Maduro's or his predecessor, Hugo Chávez', political leanings, that have given rise to the shit show that is spiraling out of control. Mass protest movements in developing countries are generally driven by day to day necessity, not broader debates over global politics, let alone American internal politics. As Bob Marley said "a hungry man is an angry man."
Men in the mass will believe anything that promises to bring in the New Jerusalem, and the more idiotic it is the more eagerly they will embrace it. Nothing that is true ever convinces them. They demand illusion, and on the political plane they get it….
H.L. Mencken
Mountains of legislation and bureaucratic diktats testify to the truth that central to the state’s business is satisfying the populace’s demand for illusions. Legislators proclaim that wages rise for all low-skilled workers when minimum-wage legislation is enacted. Jobs are saved and none are destroyed when tariffs are imposed. Terrorism is thwarted and nations built when more soldiers and bombs from ‘good-guy’ countries are unleashed abroad. The easy fix for gun violence is gun-control legislation. Seizing the earnings of the rich and giving this booty to the poor will “grow” the economy, engender domestic peace and harmony, and ensure that politicians are never again tempted into corruption or venality. Illusions all.
So Thom, based on the content of your last post, you were absolutely making a political commentary in your first post.
I think that we can all agree that "pure" anything doesn't work, whether communism or capitalism. What's your point? Have you personally been legislated out of existence?
Thom, that Mencken quote aptly describes Trump supporters. Believing Trump's diotic promises, denying facts, screaming "Fake news"...Yep, describes them to a T
>>>> think that we can all agree that "pure" anything doesn't work, whether communism or capitalism
Yep. Latin America is no stranger to crime, corruption, civil unrest, and mob violence, but horrible things have happened down there under both socialist leaning governments and conservative, pro-private business regimes (e.g. Somoza v. Sandanista). In fact, one of the most politically stable and crime free places in the region over the past half century has been Cuba. So if the OP was trying to suggest socialist policies leads to mob rule and vigilante justice, the point needs to be supported by a more in depth analysis of how specific socialist leaning policies of the Maduro and Chavez governments have lead to the current crises and why similar unrest has not occurred in other areas with similar policies such as in Bolivia under Evo Morales and why the food and other shortages inspiring the current unrest would not have happened under a pro-US, pro-free enterprise government.
