Phil has been very successful at creating a refuge that shields him from having to think about what's being done in his band's name. But every once in a while, there is a reminder of that elephant waiting just outside the room.

Jimmy and Warren worked so well together because they are both great at improvisation and predicting each others playing. They could finish each other's riffs and turn on a dime, like Jerry.
Keith Richards and Brian Jones called this "the Ancient Art of Weaving".
Warren and Jimmy were great together + Ross James and Grahame Lesh are in Phil's Family Band = DeadCo is great and John Mayer's guitar is a psychedelic wonderland.
