Am seeing many Dead Heads loving Dead Co. I am in that club. JM has really developed and takes the band so much Furthur than any previous incarnation if you get my drift. But to each his own. Am grooving on this right now.

Oteil is gonna sing!!!
Oteil is gonna sing!!!
Bassist Oteil Burbridge has shared an update from his rehearsals with Dead & Company, revealing that he “might” be taking lead vocals on some tunes during the band’s tour this summer.
In an Instagram post, Burbridge shared a picture of him singing during rehearsals and captioned the photo “Scenes from Dead & Co rehearsal. Somebody might be getting to sing lead this summer….”
There has previously been a “Let Oteil Sing” movement among Dead & Company fans, leading to a custom shirt being made and eventually sold for charity. Burbridge has sung lead on Grateful Dead songs in the past, including on “Franklin’s Tower” with the Allman Brothers Band and on songs like “Dark Star” and “Turn On Your Lovelight” during his recent stint with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead.

Why no PNW shows?
Why no PNW shows?
The Gorge last summer was one of their best shows. The crowd was decent size, and the on-site camping, vibrant Shakedown scene with lots of vending and a live band, access to the Columbia River for swimming, and spectacular scenery were a winning combination.
Thought we might see a two night run this year, but we got bupkis. Surprised they are snubbing Washington and Oregon.
Mayer plays the Gorge on July 21st, lol. My summer concert dollars are going to Elvis Costello at Chateau St. Michelle, Ziggy Marley at Woodland Park Zoo, and Ween and Willie Nelson shows at Marymoor Park.

Boulder Daily Camera: Grateful Dead members to join Boulder panel discussion before show
Ticket to event, which includes concert admission, costs $420
By Christy Fantz, Staff Writer | 05/24/2017 08:06:09 PM MDT
Former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann will take part in a Boulder panel discussion in the South Stadium Club at the University of Colorado's Folsom Field next month.
The event, planned for 4-6 p.m. Saturday, June 10, is part of a Colorado Music Hall of Fame VIP reception. Deadheads and members of the public may attend for a ticket price of $420, which includes a ticket to a Dead & Company show that evening. A portion of the proceeds directly benefit the Hall of Fame, according to organization spokesman Phil Lobel.
"Colorado Getaway: The History of the Grateful Dead in the High Country" will feature the musicians discussing the Dead's history in Boulder and Colorado — including a Human Be-In at Denver's City Park in 1967, a rumored Reed Ranch barn gig near Colorado Springs, storied shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a famous 1987 Telluride show and the band's appearances in Boulder, which has traditionally held a hotbed of Deadhead activity, according to a press release.
The musicians will be in Boulder to perform with offshoot band Dead & Company Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10. The pair of shows on Fourth of July weekend last year in Boulder marked the return of live music to Folsom Field for the first time since 2001.
The Colorado Music Hall of Fame's "Colorado Getaway" will feature a musical performance and commentary by David Gans (of SiriusXM's The Grateful Dead Hour) and interviews with Colorado promoter Don Strasburg, archivist Paul Epstein (of Twist and Shout) and David Glasser, who is re-mastering the Dead's entire catalog, according to the release.
There will be a silent auction with historic artifacts and photographs, along with items like "The Guys," a limited-edition etching of the Grateful Dead by Jerry Garcia.
The Hall of Fame will also unveil a timeline exhibit that will be housed at Red Rocks' Trading Post, the Colorado Music Hall of Fame's home. Boulder's Pasta Jay's will create a custom "Dead-inspired" menu, according to the release.
Besides the former Grateful Dead members, Dead & Company features John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti. Phil Lesh, the Dead's fourth surviving member, has his own offshoot band, Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band, which will be playing three sold-out Fox Theatre shows later in June.

This band came out of the gate on FIRE!!! They were throwing down some grooves that kept this old man going hard all fucking night! Bobby is playing stronger than I have seen him forever. Chimenti and Mayer are definitely pushing the music but Weir's vocals are bringing it all together! Oteil just puts out a great vibe the whole night! I will say I left the first Dead and co show I saw in Bgcc in 2015 but I gave it another shot last summer and now I'm on board for 6 shows this summer!!!

Well the songs played certainly have an impact. As I said, the setlists were so bad that I can't picture being happy seeing Jerry play those shows, even on a good night. Playing mediocre at best songs really well doesn't often get me that fired up. But I'm glad you're into it and having a great time! I admit, I definitely would go see them if they played at my house.

Yes, look at this dreck:
Set 1:
Music Never Stopped
Dire Wolf
Jack Straw
Loser
Friend of the Devil
Brown Eyed Women
Bird Song
Sure, if Jerry were there it would have been cool because there was lots of Jerry, but after a hot start, that's still a pretty lame finish, even back in the day. Factor in that Bobby Shatner is singing half the Jerry stuff, and that's just painful to my eyes and ears.
Set 2:
Playin’ in the Band >
Deal
China Cat Sunflower >
I Know You Rider >
Drums/Space >
The Other One >
Black Peter
One More Saturday Night
-encore-
Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door >
Playin’ in the Band (reprise)
Other One, Peter, Sat. Night fourth quarter? I absolutely would have been ripshit if the boys did that in the 80's, unless they were on absolute fucking fire, but I don't think they could have had enough fire to make that enjoyable.
Just not my cup of tea on paper, that's all. I can't see how this band could play it well enough for me to enjoy. DSO, maybe. Our local Dead band that kicks ass - possibly. But not the core three, they just bring nothing to it for me.

Partially. Don't you? I don't really care to see shitty or subpar songs played well or at all.
Though I do remember one really great version of Baba Jingo, but that was thanks to Jimmy Herring. I don't particularly care for the Dead Co lineup except for Otiel, and Chimente. So I really don't want to see them playing crappy songs. They're boring enough playing Dark Star.

I used to be super obsessed with what the Dead played for like my first 25 shows then Brent died and I started mostly dancing in the hallway etc and tried to just enjoy the moment and the energy, and any bust outs or rare songs was just icing. I was also only 19 years old when Brent died. I remember coming out of 3rd night Landover 90 and I had had the best time dancing in the hallway for the first time and a buddy was all pissed because they didn't do any thing special (they had just busted out Loose Lucy and Black Throated Wind the nights before) and then I realized....

I'll still never forget my first DSO show, I figured out about 5 tunes in that I had been at the original show, and it was a great show. Then later remembered that it was the dreaded fourth quarter you mention above, so we left after drums and saved ourselves the pain!

Until 1986 I used to get pissed about set lists and songs being played to often and then the diabetic coma happened and that went away for me as I was just happy to see Jerry playing again .
As far as DeadCo set lists the songs I want to see r Bob singing Bob songs the most. Some may have not been happy about Lost Sailor-St.of Circumstance in Arizona . That actually made the show for me personally and the funny thing is from 80-85 I would cringe when they played it to much.
I can't really explain it but if you don't like em don't listen and don't go. Which seems to be the case for most. To each his or her own but I see no need for all the negativity

Bitching about the bad shows was always a fun and important part of the experience for me and my crew. To this day I think we tend to remember and talk about the really awful shows more than the great ones, probably because they were rare. It's not a negativity thing, because it's enjoyable to talk about the badness.
