Next up, The Nels Cline 4 will be playing 4 shows in the Northeast in July.

The first two shows will see protean percussion wiz Dave King (of The Bad Plus and Happy Apple repute) subbing for Tom Rainey. Tom returns from wherever he needed to be for the last 2 shows (praise be...). Boss bassist Devin Hoff (of The Nels Cline Singers, Good For Cows, and Julia Holter band repute) will be on bass. And of course the amazing Julian Lage will join me on electric guitar.

Shows by this band are necessarily rare, so please come check us out if you can. And don't forget that we have a recently-released recording called Currents, Constellations (Blue Note Records).

Joachim Cooder played the mbira during his opening set for dad rocker Ry Cooder.

That would have been cool to check out!

( we use to cover a Ry Cooder Tune, "Hollywood")

I got tickets to see them from a friend for my birthday.

Cline and Lage were the best thing I saw at Solid Sound last year.

That's great, 6er. Happy birthday. Maybe see you there.

>> Cline and Lage were the best thing I saw at Solid Sound last year.

Ah, but if I recall, didn't you spend all of Saturday in the main field in order to get as close to the Television cover band as you could (thereby missing a whole mess of acts on the smaller stages, as well as pop-ups), and then leave early on Sunday?

No - we only lined up about a half hour to see Television (cover band? - 3 of the 4 were original members).

And you know I did not spend all of Saturday in the main field 'cause I watched at least 3 sets with you on the side stages.

We left just as Tweedy and friends started on Sunday evening. As it was - The Nels Cline 4 didn't end their set until 5 PM, so I think we left around 6 or so - is 6 PM early on a Sunday?

>> And you know I did not spend all of Saturday in the main field 'cause I watched at least 3 sets with you on the side stages.

I think you're misremembering, 6er. Daniel Bachman, Sunday morning.

And, yes: it's commonly accepted that the magic of the band Television lay in the interplay between both original guitarists. Without Richard Lloyd, that band simply is not Television.

Anyhow, the best band that I saw at Solid Sound was, you know, Wilco.

I'll give you that no Richard Lloyd is a let down - but Jimmy plays Lloyd's riffs very well.

I have also been a fan of Verlaine's solo stuff - so seeing him is most excellent either way.

I left during Wilco's set every evening. lol

On my way out to see Ray Vega's trio.

Cheers!

6er, you don't have to justify why your favorite band's performance was subpar, nor why you left during the highlights of the weekend.

This is a thread to celebrate music, not to explain one's miscalculations. Even if you were already wrong in all of your posts thus far.

I forgive you. And I hope you really enjoy the Nels Cline 4!

I had a ticket for that Freight & Salvage show the other night, but something came up and I couldn't get up to Berkeley in time. I was definitely disappointed to miss that one.

The next time Cline is set to be in the Bay Area is next month when he's playing at Yoshi's with Jim Campilongo, Chris Morrissey & Josh Dion, which I guess is normally called the Jim Campilongo Trio.

Unfortunately for me I'll be missing that show as well, as I'll be hippying it up in SF with Phish that night.

Cline is always worth seeing though, and at least for me the weirder the project the better he is.

GTTS!

Wish I lived closer to Portland

In my line of sight, there is no justification. There is music you like and music you don’t like.

Ray Vega is killing it - but on a break now.

Unable to resist.

Thanks, ateix! I have quite a few of those already, but there’s some stuff in that link I have never heard.

Super nice gesture on your part.

That's 3 of the 4 members from the band you thought was Television; I figured you'd enjoy it.

Looking forward to the Nels Cline shows, hope you're getting hyped as well!

How many old bands still have their original members? Not many. Not many at all. Death don;t have no mercy and lots of bands hold grudges. Ask Chris Robinson about that. lol

And - oh yeah - I'm seeing Nels and Julian on Monday!

Really stoked. Can't wait. You'll find me "out there."
