2024 Oscar Nominated Short films

Forums:

First up, the 2024 Oscar-Nominated Documentary Short Films

I felt these deserved their own thread, Gratefulness in documentaries up first;

My fave, heartwarming yet brutal at the same time, a friend worked on sound for this one, I truly loved it, hope you do too!  (it's ok to cry too)

Another feel good documentary, but the struggle is real, also Phantastic!

This one should rightfully piss you off!!!  Thoughtfully told through the eyes of kids...  the list of banned books is freaking nuts (I'm sure many of you are well aware of this). First amendment, use it or lose it!!!

I thought the 2 Asian films were excellent as well, enjoy!

Thanks, that last repair shop looked really cool. Will check it.

Only had time to watch the  'Last Repair Shop', truly a great story. Thanks!

Oh, wow, I just watched the Last Repair Shop and it's truly beautiful and moving and fun and wonderful. I really want my grand kids to watch it, partly because my 10 year old granddaughter plays cello through her elementary school.

Thanks, Noodler, and thanks for posting the links.

I loved "The Last Repair Shop", think i've seen it 4 times now (sharing w/ friends).  So glad you all enjoyed it too!!!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to go see the Oscar nominated adventure short films,  hopefully have a few more links to share.

Went and saw the Oscar nominated short films "Adventure" last night, though a better description would have been "Dramas".  They were all sad, except the last one, but what's really sad is only one was on you tube, so i'll image the list instead of link it;

I think republicans, and the anti abortion crowd should see "Red, White and Blue", my second fave of these movies.

Knight of Fortune was on youtube, so here's a link;

The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar was my Fave,  had an all star cast (Benedict Cumberbatch, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes, ex), and was a fast paced fast talking experience; Here's the trailer;

Our local theater is showing the shorts. We went and inadvertently purchased tix to the animated shorts.

Need to go back for the live action shorts, also being shown at the same local theater just a different time. d'oh

The animated shorts start today, i'll likely go next Monday or Tuesday...    Thursday was the last day for adventure shorts, glad I was able to sneak them in!  Got exposed to Covid last week, didn't get it, but had to quarantine myself for a week just for public safety...

And the winner is, The Last Repair Shop!

I love that they brought the shiny-smiled young violin player on stage with them. She's beautiful and that's some blue tulle.

I love short films, and the Last Repair Shop was truly excellent, but seeing the little girl all dressed up on the big stage was truly heartwarming!  So sad that music has been removed from so many school districts.

I use to work at one of the local music stores for several years, we did the band rentals / repairs for the mid Willamette Valley and coast.  Learned a fair amount about brass / reed repairs, and loved the 2 repair man that worked there (both great reed players)

RIP Al
