4 parts......good stuff

There is another thread somewhere but no time to search at the moment.

I'm only through 2 parts and felt it's been a bit lacking compared to the other 30 for 30s.  My kids are bored out of their minds watching it with me. "Oh dad, not this hippy stuff again"

I thought the part about the FBI trying to tie the outspoken hippie (Walton) to  Patty Hearst/SLA stuff was fascinating. Didn't know he been a vegetarian and such a good person on/off the court. And those people injuries. Mad props to to him

A pity the kids aren't getting the underlying message. Unfortunately, that often happens with Walton's goofy surface and endless babbling, but if you can cut through all the clownish rainbows & fairly dust jabber, there is an extremely serious, steely resolve to that guy and a total dedication/conviction to his beliefs, and that shows a number of times in those interviews and in how much he's had to overcome and the high level of success he's had all through his life.

He absolutely comes across as a rambling clown, but right below the surface he is all about honor, loyalty, dedication, sacrifice, perseverance and team, team, team. Those are good qualities. He's the type of person you want on your side, and despite the hippy exterior, I don't think I'd want to be on his bad side.

As for the Patty Hurst bit, I'd forgotten about his connection to that, and they kind of glossed over that bit and quickly moved on, but it's hard to imagine that he was completely clean with all that, considering that his best friend/advisor/guru at the time was TOTALLY involved and was the guy who spirited the most-wanted Hurst across the country and hid her.

That was the biggest news story of the century and at that point it had been going on for a year & a half. Walton almost certainly knew more than he lets on, but it doesn't sound like the feds squeezed him too much on that. Being a sports hero and celebrity does have its perks.

Overall, I thought it was a good documentary about a very interesting person. As always with anything Walton, if you're a dead head it's easier to appreciate, but hippy or not, he has lived a fascinating life and his story is a great example to everyone of how far perseverance and an undying dedication to your beliefs can take you.

>but right below the surface he is all about honor, loyalty, dedication, sacrifice, perseverance and team, team, team.

good words there, Lance. ^

my words came out all jumbled

I meant to say persistent injuries. It's incredible that he was able to deal with all of that and still persevere.

I still have one more episode to watch, wondering if he's got bionic feet and new hips now.

And I took  Walton at his word that he wasn't involved with the Heart affair. Doubt  he'd have anything to fear if he was  transparent today about those events so many years ago and he does seem like a very honest guy. But who knows the pressures to keep secrets..and no need  to give the  FBI reason to start sniffing around again.
