Forums:

I prefer the night before as a few of my favorite versions were played but this one is good too. I remember reading in Relix at the time that Mickey said they kissed the sky; And the setlist is pretty good.

And the 4th Gloria ever played and the first traces of Hey Jude during Dear Mr. Fantasy since 1969 until Red Rocks 5 months later.

Nice!  I got a Louie Louie there in 1988.  Good times.

Agree Doolittle, It's a solid '85 show, strong set list. I had this one back then; always liked the weird

Miracle-->China-->Rider set opener.

  Irvine Meadows was the first venue where I saw Garcia in Southern California. Garcia Band 5-19-89. Probably the longest Don't Let Go I ever saw, and it was OUT THERE.

Also saw his 50th Birthday show there, 8-1-92, front row. A very fun time; I was sorry I never got to see the Dead there.

Thanks Johnny, you reminded me I saw the bust-out of Louie Louie in Hartford a few weeks before you saw Irvine. Pretty unexpected!

So I decided to look:

-They did it Once in '67, one in '69 and then 5 in '88 and the last one in '89 in.....Louisville!!!!!

They did have a sense of humor once in a while.

Saw Louie at MSG during their 9 night run in 88.  Saw 3 nights. The 20th the night they played Louie was definitely the best of the 3.

Just read that Mike Mitchell, founding member of The Kingsmen and lead guitarist (their big hit was Louie Louie)

passed away Friday, April 16.

RIP
