39th Aniv. of my first dead show, Pauly Pavilion 78

Forums:

Not only my first show, but a truly epic night as well!  The first set has 12 songs, and doesn't fit on a 90 minute tape (ah, the old days).  Takes a bit for the mix to come together on Jack Straw, but this is truly one of the best first sets the band played that year!  And the 2nd set, wholly crap!  The bands simply on fire for this show, sweet licks, punchy rhythms, even Mickey said it was the better night when interviewed at the close of Winterland the following night.  During the show, there was a big screen over the stage with pictures of the famous trip to Egypt a few months earlier.  The drum solo had Hamza el Din with Bill Walton and Bill Graham, all jiving in odd time, then the band comes out and executes arguably the best version of the very rare song Ollin Arrageed.  Then a break out of St. Stephen (hadn't played since early that year),  and Lee Oscar coming out to jam on the last few songs.

oh, one of the Best . Tennessee . Jeds . Ever !!!!

Looks like a great show, Noodler.  Must have been a wicked time.

I suppose the only bad thing, we got in line, and when they opened the gates, the crowd surged, I got smashed together with a bunch of people (was easly to tell everyones sex, cough), and got herded (shoved) up ahead of many folks who'd been waiting longer.... it was truly a case of watching eddies in the cosmic flow of humanity...   so ended up with decent spot to stand in awe during the show.  In 78 I saw a lot of legends like the Allman bros (with Cher as a dowop girl), Muddy Waters, Genesis, Tull, Moody Blues, Yes, etc.  This show was right up there with all of those (and the ones I'm forgetting, oh, like AC/DC first time in the state, rock!!!)

But it really should be an official release, the playing is that tight, Jerry's nailing the shit out of it, very creative, hell they all are...   really is just an epic show.  The Shakedown coming out of playing, the entire first set (again, veneta 82 my other favorite tennessee jed, but this one just smokes!)

Killer shows. Genesis '78 would have been nice. Burning Rope. Did you see the mirrors?

yep, saw the mirrors (LA Forum),  green lazers, amazing light show (and the bass rumbling, wowzer)

though this is my fave Genesis show, band sold the tickets as a promotion;

Thanks for the tip.  I don't think I have ever heard this show.  Glad you had a great time!

Happy anniversary Noodler.  Looks like a great show. Gonna have to check it out.

The first set has 12 songs, and doesn't fit on a 90 minute tape (ah, the old days).>>>>> Nice!

Nice!

I had tape of this show for years. Bad quality with the levels set way too high. Still listened to it however.

'73 Pauly is stupid-good also.

Has it been 45 years???  My how time flies!!!

'73 Pauly is stupid-good also>>>

Dave's most recent pick is the '71 show, fine choice.  Saw the '80 show, another real good one, also w/Lee Oskar.

The 45th anniversary of my first show was last month. I have no idea where a lot of the time went.
