40 Years Ago - Niagara Falls 4/17/84

Forums:

Man I could write a book about this one. My second show, my first dose (Syracuse 83 my first show). I hitchhiked from Erie PA to meet my roommate who went to Rochester the previous night. The lot scene blew me away, deadheads climbing the Convention Center, seeing Niagara Falls while tripping, and then the show was GA with bleachers on the side, tiny little place. A fairly strong show, Jerry has some flubs but makes up for it with strong playing. Take A Step Back!! Hahaha! They flub the jam in Help on the Way but make up for it with an intense Slipknot. Eyes of the World at breakneck speed, great Black Peter. The drums freaked me out, I could feel my insides vibrate it was so loud. Ended up after the show in my roommate's buddy's van with a bunch of other deadheads and we got pulled over by NYS Troopers on the Thruway, I don't know how we survived that one! This night changed me forever, anybody else hear at this show?

I was there. Really memorable day. One of the smallest venues I was able to see the band play. I have memories of being on the roof as well as seeing the falls for the first and only time of my life.

Same here Jack. I elected not to go up on the roof before the show, but I enjoyed see people hanging out up there......

With a roof like that, what did they think people would do???

As I never got to see them in a theater, this was the smallest venue I saw them play....

Deadbase has this listed as 10,000 capacity. No way....

The Rochester War Memorial, where they played the night before, is 10,000. This place was 6-7000, max....

It had the pullout wooden bleachers on the sides like my High School gym had!!!

We were halfway up the bleachers, near the stage on Jerry's side....perfect spot to avoid the Western NY Madness on the floor...

Of course they had to do Take a Step Back!

They did what I thought was a very strong Help-Slip-Franklin's, among other highlights.

Another unforgettable Evening With The Grateful Dead in NY.......
