42 years ago, one good choice

Forums:

There are lots of good shows played on this date, and because of this one it became a date that stuck in my mind and I always tried to make the 12/28 show.

Silly of course, trying to "figure out" the Grateful Dead was always a fools errand, but whatever, this is a fine show and one that has a place close to my heart. It was also the first time I'd heard Row Jimmy. I literally melted during that brilliant version and have been a fan of the song ever since. 42 years later and I still get that same feeling when I listen to this version. Funny how that works.

BTW, as I mentioned in a different thread recently and as I have mentioned a few times over the years, this is the show were the "older" dead head (I was 19, he was probably late 20s) told me at intermission that the band was now boring and all done. Go figure.

Give it a listen...

Great show!! I believe that Row Jimmy was also chosen the be 'released' in one of the "Live" box sets that came out approx 15 years ago too - and for very good reason. Thanks for the reference/tip, Lance.

!yes

I love 79 Brent and Jerry's noodling. One of my favorite years really. Phil sure boomed a lot that year.

That PITB is epic from this show.

I thought this might be a wedding anniversary thread

This was one of the first tapes that an older head made for me.  Thanks for posting, due for a revisit.

Yes we were there --one of those monstrous Sugaree openers-- you knew it was going to be a killer night.

Things got crazy on the floor at the end of the second set and my friend's glasses went flying. I looked about 20 feet in front of us and there they were in the crowd. Crazy night.

it's a Brent show :)
