Have any zones run a marathon?  Not sure what I’m getting myself into but I’m attempting one in September 2019.  I’m not in shape and never ran before.  Let the training begin :-)

Sounds terrible.  Have fun.

Good luck. Have you considered consulting a physician before beginning your training regimen?

Ran Cross-Country in high school.  Races were 4-5 miles,  we trained 8-10 miles or more each day,  if weather was good.

But now I'm an old dude.  Doubt I could even outrun a chubby cop or lean mugger.

Take it slow at first and stay hydrated.

^^ yep, the doc said start very slow, walking, and stop at first sign of pain...listen to your body.

I also did cross-country in HS, one time the coach drove us all to our biggest opponent (La Canada), dropped us off, and had us run home so we had our "enemy at our backs"....

was roughly 25-30 miles depending on which routes ya went...

I've run many, but stopped in 1984 when I blew my knee ( not from running) did NYC in 1981 at 3:16:58, we can email privately if you need info

just as a brief comment, judging by you first post, sept 2019 might be a bit early

26 miles is a long drive. Running it seems absurd.

Congrats Elvis, that’s a fast time from what I am reading about average times for amateurs.  I’ll update this thread on progress in months to come.  For now I am walking 2 miles in about 33 minutes 3x per week.  I also cut out alcohol except for wine and started a pescatarian diet.  Just started all this after thanksgiving.

hat’s a fast time from what I am reading about average times for amateurs.

I was 27 then, 66 now, I've gone inside for exercise now, doing cross-fit 5 days a week, some running involved but as its NYC when its too hot or cold we do more rowing indoors or exercise bikes, which are good for you if you live somewhere you can't get out to run everyday. once you start feeling like you aren'r dyng try a run at least 1 few miles everyday, its all muscle memory your body and brain need to know they can do the distance. don't forget upper body work as well light dumbells and pushups, situps help the body over 26.2 . Last thing don't deny yourself a beer or dessert when you feel you want/need it, its a reward for working hard

" I’m not in shape and never ran before."

You might want to try something shorter before jumping in.

Ran in high school, 1:52 880.

thats pretty fast thom, there must have been mexicans behind you

Lol larry

So 20 some years ago thom bested today’s world record time in the marathon by close to 10 minutes

is that in Trump time?

I take Hüsky Mtn. Biking on a straight flattish trail every few days.  This time of year we do 8-10 miles but hot weather,  3-4 miles tops.

It's barely a workout for me,  Dog does most of the work.

Seeing people actually running on the same trail,  I'm thinking "Wow that's a lot of effort."

The idea was to get H.I.M.  in competitive "Bike-Jöring" races with his Sled-Dawg buddies.  The times I've clocked at full-speed are so far, third-place at best.  But that's on my Krap K-mart mtn. bike.

My 34 yr old son just ran the Philadelphia Marathon. It was his first. He trained for 3-4 months, running a little over 500 miles in the process. His longest run during training was 20 miles. He finished it in appx 4-3/4 hrs at about a 10min 45 sec mile steady pace. He was fine after and is now planning to do the Chicago Marathon next year.

Disco, we have met once, not sure if you remember, but I would love to meet your doggie one day!  He is a natural born runner.  Thanks for the good advice, Elvis.  I won’t say no to an occasional Heady Topper.  Adding sit-ups and push-ups to the routine.

Walking the 5k in Seneca Falls, NY tomorrow.

It’s a wonderful life - Jimmy Stewart, look it up.

China,

Yeah I forgot where we met,  my guess would be Forest Hills Q show at the Poz Family gathering ?
There or at one of the Port Chester Phil shows ?

Anyway,  best of luck with your Marathon training.  I've found that biking is great low-impact exercise.  I had slacked off for a few years,  but easily got back into it.  Helps to have the kibble-powered engine up front.

It was Port Chester at the Philton but did not have much time to talk...trying to get to the show or something.

Yesterday at Seneca Falls.   https://youtu.be/ivrWJaciERs

Over 5,400 participants, it was the 10th year anniversary of the 5k run.  I finished in 52min, but was walking and caught in the crowd for the first 20 minutes.  Drone footage at about 7:22 in that video.  The starting line is the bridge made famous in the “It’s a Wonderful Life” movie.  Race start at 13:30.

I do one or 2 a year. More a fan of the half marathon but still pull off a full or 2. Just did Marine Corps in Oct and am signed up for Chicago next year. The Wineglass is a good option for first time, and I think regionally appropriate for you. Nice flat course in great country side

Bad asses up in here.

Best o' luck.
