...but not mine.
I can remember the first time I listened to this album like it was yesterday. I had heard from many that Patti Smith was a powerhouse and that I needed to go see her perform as soon as I could. I was the music director at our high school radio station and when the LP was delivered a few days before the release day, I brought it home, smoked a joint and droped the needle on the disc, heard those first piano notes, followed by those first words. They sent a shiver into my body and I knew that I had to pay serious attention to what came next. I still get those shivers whenever Gloria (Part I: "In Excelsis Deo" / Part II: "Gloria) hits my ears.
I am glad that Patti Smith is a part of this world. It's a much more interesting place because of her.

Patti Smith was, and remains,
Patti Smith was, and remains, punk as fuck. She's a provocative artist for the ages, and Robert Mapplethorpe's glaring cover photo framed her perfectly.

An absolutely amazing,
An absolutely amazing, timeless album.
Patti Smith definitely has notoriety, but not nearly as much as she deserves.
She embodies all the best of rock 'n roll, and she is what any artist should aspire to be.
Long Live Patti Smith!!!

the first time i heard this
the first time i heard this album was when a friend of mine put it on the turn table during a heavy psych experience.
it simultaneously shattered and reassembled my stupid little mind.
I love it and her.

I was privileged to see her
I was privileged to see her last year at the Van Morrison tribute at Carnegie Hall. Brilliant as ever. Love her spitting on the Carnegie Hall stage right before the 3 minute mark. Fabulous performance.

Normally at this time of year
Normally at this time of year, I would be gearing up for Ms. Smith's yearly NYC birthday show on Dec 30th. No in-person show this year but she and her band will be doing a live streaming performance. I suspect, as is usually the case for this show, their will be a few guests involved, but she is a hard one to predict and seems to thrive by turning expectations on end. One thing I am sure of is that it will be worth the price of a ticket. In this case, ten dollars. https://pattismith.veeps.com/stream/events/963af848152c
