5-8-77 Anyone?

Forums:

you know you love it.  Second set is perfection

It's a really good show, but kind of over-hyped too. Lots of great GD music that Spring.

In other news, Robert Johnson was born on May 8, 1911.

I was a sophomore in college in central Mass frantically studying for finals. We had just gone to Springfield two weeks before and I had tickets for Baltimore two weeks from then, so no big deal to miss it. But I do remember our younger freshman fellow Deadhead friend came back from Ithica the next day and said it was a hellva show. That 4/23/77 Springfield Civic Center show isn't too shabby, either (and I just read it was general admission).

IMHO always felt it was a way overrated show. There were at least 3 May shows and a few in April that I liked better.

Overrated for sure but Set II is sublime. Garcia way deep in the zone. Pristine.

Next night in Beefalo, not too shabby.  5/21 Lakeland another 5 star nite.

Received Betty Boards for the 8th & 9th in the late 80's, much appreciated..

 5/22 Pembroke Pines...something about Eyes > Wharf > Inspiration > Dew...

The first time I went to see the Grateful Dead was a month later on June 9, 1977. That show was not too shabby either. Hooked me for life and I spent a lot of time and a large fortune on the band.

77 was a good year for them. One of many good years with many out-of-this-world concerts. They also played a "clunker" now and then. If Barton Hall was "the best" which show was "the worst"?

These lists of "the best" are really kind of silly, but seem to be necessary for people, or at least marketers. Click here to continue...

Reddit went big today with about 17 threads for 5/8/78 (so far). My favorite of the bunch:
