6.0 Earthquake in Humboldt, Tsunami warning...

Forums:

I don't know much, but someone here does.

Earthquake centered in Scotia, Tsunami warnings for Oregon Coast.

Looks like the big one was just off-shore, and there's been some pretty heavy activity between Ukiah and Santa Rosa too.

All quiet so far.  Hope it stays that way.

KEZI reporting (vis USGS) the quake was 7.0-7.3

yo gfish, what's up in the cove? Hope you're well buddy

Thanks, Ken

I texted Garyfish, haven't heard back yet.

Friends in Arcata who live who live near marsh were evacuated.

Surf's Up!

The 5.8 near Cobb is around 10 miles SW from me. I slept through  it.

Worried about my Humboldt peeps though.

Stressful morning here on the coast of West Marin....

Started with the automatic earthquake alert on the phone....

Then the buzzing phone saying, basically, Tsunami alert, GET TO HIGHER GROUND NOW!!!!!

Then I see the Fire Chief racing down the hill with full lights and sirens....

Hummmmm, not a good sign....

Then comes the blaring tsunami alert siren that you can literally hear for a couple miles....

Then the fire truck comes along with Blaring Alarm which I've never heard. (We live at sea level, a block from the beach).

Pounding on the door from the Fire Department...."Get in your car and get out now!!!"

I was going to have the wife go and then stay, because I figured it was another "better safe than sorry" situation,

but I went....

3 minutes after driving down Highway 1 to a high point, we got the word from a friend in the department that

The Coast Was Clear.....

This is the third or fourth one of these we've had.

And it is, indeed, better safe than Tsunami........

All the best to everyone in Humboldt; I used to live there and was actually looking at property up there when this happened.

Always seem to be keeping it weird.....

gfish, you ok pal?

All OK here at my place in Humboldt... LOTS of stuff thrown to the floor, and power went out almost immediately (thus no Internet, WiFi Calling, texting, etc.), but miraculously it came back on a short time ago. Took me a while to clean things up, but no apparent structural damage except for a broken PVC pipe in the pumphouse... so I won't have running water until that gets fixed.

Bss -- I live in Petrolia, not Shelter Cove. I'm just a few miles from the so-called Mendocino Triple Junction, a nexus of 3 continental plates that make this area one of the most seismically active places in North America. The magnitude 7.0 that happened today was the biggest I've felt since April 1992. Rock and roll, indeed!!

Glad we all seem OK, as good as possible

Shake and bake.

Lol. Perfect description of the Quakefest evacuation centerpiece in Arcata

I was in Arcata for the Jan 1, 2023 quake... locals were like "no big deal."

Hey Doc! Long time.

Hey Fish, you watched this yet?

^^^ Mark, I watched that video the day before Doc posted the link here... a local friend sent me an email with the link, and of course I watched the whole hour-plus right away. I know just about everybody who was interviewed. Thought it was pretty well done.

Hey Mark, still here hanging in. Whitethorn construction sold a 2000 dollar table from that video and numerous calls about slabs. I guess people like wood, good for our down trodden economy. I wired the wood shop that makes those products, Tasha in the video runs sanctuary forests restoration of the headwaters of the Mattole. One side creek they just did had fish in for the first time in years. They also went after pge cutting down big redwoods trees. They got their lawyers and forced pge to admit if they did not allow the trees to be cut. Likewise, they could not switch the liability to the landowner from pge. Their wire, their liability.

Thanks All  ! I Really Love Up North Ca. ~ Rob

thanks that video was great. guy does a nice interview. well done.

Hi Doc, I think of you occasionally and hope you are well and having good times.
