70's "food" The good, the bad, and the Jiggly

Forums:

I bought what I thought was granulated garlic at the mercado the other day. Upon closer inspection (and a google translation search) realized that I bought unflavored gelatin by mistake. Ended up making Meyer Lemon jello blocks with it: fresh meyer lemon juice, a bit of water, some honey, and a cup of frozen boysenberries. It was actually pretty great for an experiment reminiscent of 1970's pot-luck dinners.

What 1970's era dishes do you remember fondly...or wish you could forget?

Quiche.

Not a fan.

Still cool with salad bars if clean.

Just say no to the Hamburger Helper tho'.

Hungarian Goulash...or was it ghoulish?

Guess it depends who made it...

My moms was great...but, like alot of her other recipes and dishes, we follow recipe, and it tastes nothin like Moms...and she left us long time ago, so we cant ask...but, we know she took all her secrets,w her!

Jbone, it's actually gulyas, pronounced goo-yash, and the real Hungarian gulyas is a soup. Gulyas leves (lev-esh).

It is delicious (finom).

It seemed like we had lime sherbet and 7-up punch at every kid's birthday party in '76. I tried duplicating it as a grown up with the cotton-mouthed munchies and it was disgusting. Maybe my palette evolved  beyond what a 7 year old digs, or possibly the 7-up or lime sherbet ingredients changed.

Were twinkies from the 70"s

Cracker Jacks fur sure. Used to wait in expectation for my little prize of lick on tattoos or what ever was in there.

I was never into McDonalds, except for the hot apple pies.

Now they are baked, but back then they were fried.

Probably not very healthy, but good.

Thanks, cb

Yukon Jack...snakebites...ugh...

What???

I had them for breakfast many a morn in late 70 s....

I cant even smell roses lime juice now without gagging, but i drank enough yukon that i can still recite what it said (says??) On the back of the bottle...

"A taste born of hoary nights when men struggled to keep their fires lit, and their cabins warm."

Funny, i cant remember my phone number, or what i ate for breakfast yesterday...but...that s just imprinted from youth i guess...

fondue

That was a big deal back then for sure, my parents had two kinds of fondue pots, a ceramic one for cheese "Swiss Fondue" and a metal one for hot oil fondue. The other thing they had too many accessories for were kebabs of any kind, fruit, meat, veggies. Bamboo skewers, metal skewers, toothpicks of many colors. My parents usually marinated chunks of beef in soy, with garlic and lemon juice or wine, then threaded them on metal skewers with chunks of onion, peppers, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. Smelled great cooking on the weber. My friend's mom made some beef on a stick things marinated in coca cola that were really good.

Quiche.

I hear you.  Then again, some have bacon and cheese.

I'm pretty sure Cracker Jacks are from the 50's.

Rad Rad Rad ! you are blowing me Up in Remembrance !!!

The first time I saw people smoking weed was at a fondue party in the early 70's. My parents made us leave as soon as they jays started making the rounds. LOL

My first summer job was at Orange Julius.  I loved those drinks until I worked there.

I was in high school and had never scraped a 500 degree grill before or worn a polyester uniform. Good times. Educational. Not going to college did not even occur to me.

Pringles

Fresca

Smartfood popcorn

Screw you guys, I like tiki punch, pringles, and smartfood. Pringles are great on road trips cause the can. Smartfood is great but too messy. Anyway, smartfood is like 80s anyway.

Carob.

I have no idea why we went to the health food store, but there was carob. Why? And wheat nuts, which were pretty damn good, unlike carob.

Frito Chili Pie!  God I love a good frito chili pie.  As of a couple years ago you could get Frito Chili Pie at most Sonics.  Have not stopped into a Sonic here on the West Coast think I will just to see if they have the Chili Pie on the menu.  I suspect not.  Bet the southern Sonics still do!

Capri Sun?

I have a specific memory of working hard on my household chores to earn the chance to eat:
