African and Haitian Music Appreciation Thread

Forums:

I'd like to correct a problem if I may, I'd like to change the repugnant "shit hole" with the celebratory Shit Hot!!

I've lived in Africa, my brother does pediatric work in Haiti, I could go on.  The world is full of marvels beyond the imagination, and one of those is music.  So to rectify the spirit of our country with good faith to those who've been insulted, lets celebrate the music of Africa, Haiti, and those that have been disenfranchised by racists in general.

I'd like to start with a long time favorite of mine, King Sunny Ade, have seen him a half dozen times, love love love it!!!

Salif Keita was exiled by his royal family when he was just 18, as being a musician wasn't fitting a son of a king, and being albino was sign of misfortune to the superstitious, he went on to become one of the fathers of Afro-pop, and top grossing African performers of all time!

I have four minute news clip of Bob Marley in Africa, that I wish was longer. I was up all night looking for relevant clips to add to it.

Which shithole country does Regina Carter come from?

Ummmm, Detroit....;)

I was showcasing  her music and style representative "of" , didn't realize only interested in artists from there ( not what title says  tho smartass ). Plus the instrument (Kora) is really beautiful.

carry on...

If you believe the title of a thread dictates the narrative course that the thread should take, then, you're sort of part of the problem?

you're sort of part of the problem? >>>

That's hilarious, in an ironic sort of way !

Fela Kuti, I have this album on vinyl, probably got intro'd to it in my teen years due to Ginger Baker's participation (along with King Sunny Ade, Fela is "African Music 101" for Lame White Guys):

Hmmmm, that kind of need to adhere to order/rules is downright Autistic in it's Rigidity.

Still waiting for you to start your own Low Traffic Drug Band Message Board.  Maybe someday you wiil and I will say "Well He Certainly Showed Me"

I saw Fela late 80's / early 90's, think they had 33 people on stage, and rumor was they went through a pound of weed a day, lol...    he gave quite a few political lectures during the show, was actually quite moving!

Is this the lady gaga thread ???

does regina carter play african or haitian music?

>> 06:49 am

Lol!

>> does regina carter play african or haitian music?

I think she's on that Indestructible Beat of Soweto comp that Paul Simon and all the whites love.
