After 12 Draws

Forums:

The World Chess Championship is going on in London.  After 12 draws it’s going into a series of fast tiebreaker games.  There is a chance for Fabiano Caruana to become the first American champion since Bobby Fischer beat Boris Spassky in 1972.

I think Magnus still has a better chance, but at this point Fabiano has proved himself worthy.  Game 12 was controversial in that Magnus offered a draw although he seemed to be winning and had more time on the clock.

With a name like Fabiano you know the guy is a winner

Fascinating stuff, but I have to admit to thinking that if you are in a situation where there have been 12 draws can you really say who is the better player?

On paper Magnus has a better record in the short game format, Fabiano runs out of time.

Hays fucking awesome. Hope the American wins it. Just recently got back into playing. Was playing with a guy who spent 15 yrs in the state pen. He whooped my ass every time but I he showed me some cool stuff.

Looks like the Norwegian finally beat him. Too bad. Three straight titles though for Magnus. Pretty impressive.

Yep, Magnus takes it 3-0 in the first three rapid play tie breaker games.

To me it’s a dumb way to decide a champion. The should keep playing regular until someone wins. Otherwise it’s like someone winning the Stanley Cup in a shoot out.
