o.k. 1979 -  85 birks  - probably the most unique footbed and knock out comfyness.

my neighbor 1989 in wore Tevas in and I got turned onto them. Finding a hiker wearing Chacos in 1992 turned my life around. vibram soles  grip the slick rocks and muddy trails.

now onto hiking boots that I wear most every day, Lowa - again with the vibram soles can't be beat. keens are okay, and the toe box keeps the piggies from getting squished, but they aren't made with the vibram soles.

how could I forget Vionic flip flops?!

Cool I have Vionic flip flops and love them

my everyday walking and hiking shoe is the Merrell centurion with Vibram soles.

sandals are Eco's just can't wear them out

Vasque hiking boots everyday go-to's.
 Timberlands for the heavy snow.

Merrell hiking shoes for summer.
Teva flip flops.

Mid 90's I was into the Ecco brand, but had a pair that the sole cracked in half after 5 years, stopped buying them after that.

Vasquez makes a gorgeous hiking boot, unfortunately that brands doesn't fit my feet.

bought a pair in the last 80's, wore them on a backpacking trip  and had to change into my sneakers. tied them on my pack and lost one running down the mountain in a lightening storm. Too bad cause I was going to bring them back to REI, but there was no way I was going back up the mountain in the storm to retrieve the lost boot.

Birks. Birks. Birks. Since 1980? Dark blue suede Arizona-style til they started making black suede, never looked back. I always have two pairs, one in better shape (newer) than the other. I also have 2 pairs of black Birkie clogs for garden, hard rain, walking.

Teva mush flips for beaching, i have multiple pairs.

baker shoes (from our local bakery).

Anyone shine em?

why did birkenstock stop making the zurich? one large comfy franciscan strap ~ that was my favorite ...

I always have a couple of shades available. Wear these 90% of the time when not at work.

I really love shoes without laces.

I always have nubuck Arizona Birks in the rotation, plus three pairs of Doc Martens shoes (the newest of which is this gorgeous pair of Vegan boots in a deep, glossy cherry color which I really love), along with various pairs of Mary Jane-style clogs.  My hikers are Salewas, which are super lightweight, durable and luggy all at once, and I just this week ordered a pair of Sorel Joan of Arctic snow boots, to replace my 15 year-old beat-to-shit pair.

Good thread.  I like shoes.

Teva flip-flops FTW!

My aunt had a dog named Chanclas.

These don't go out too often smiley

Vionic flip flops are great, but I had a hard time replacing them this year without getting into a bunch of bright colors.  Nare.  Have two pairs of Keens boots, taghee for real hiking and an unknown style for "other" (got them at REI gear sale).  This year I finally had to switch from years of either chucks or sambas for daily wear. I guess my feet have arches or some shit. It took awhile but I finally found some New Balance running shoes that are in properly somber colors, sort of like seahawk grey.  Very comfy.  I hope they last awhile because there are 100 ugly-ass running shoes for every one that I might consider even trying on.

Birkenstock sandals and kitchen shows are all I ever wear

Recently settled in on a pair of saucony wave riders, terrible time finding anything of quality that actually fit. After New balance started outsourcing overseas i can't get anything to fit right from them.

Pretty sure i'm shrinking and my feet are getting bigger.

i, too, have been seeking alternatives to the new balance and saucony style, and stumbled across this new(ish) sneaker company from france – no tear stains and environmentally responsible.

veja sneakers

they still have a somewhat limited selection, but thought i'd share ...

I ground scored a nice pair of Birkenstocks at a campground at Deer Creek in 94.   Fit perfectly and wore them for years after,

Two years ago, I found a pair at a garage sale for $5.   Again, they fit perfectly and I still have them.

On another note, my ex's dad (RIP) lost a leg in an auto factory accident in Flint.  As part of his compensation, he got unlimited free shoes for life (to go with the fake leg).  Every year, he would give me a couple boxes of Stacy Adams dress shoes for work.

3 or 4 E with an arch, its not easy.

I really like Zappos for customer service and selection.

i have never owned birks

Great thread and timely. The frisbee gals are gathering again tomorrow for a 9 mile hike (Charles Bronson State Forest). I have no hiking shoes. I wear my Bass leather loafers and catch all kinds of shit for improper footwear. Hey it's Florida, It's flat and it has been a very dry December so no mud to deal with...but I do need to move on to some comfortable, and not too heavy hiking boots. Great suggestions in this thread. Keep them coming.

Teva sandals for everyday.

Judit, those shoes look sweet!

Thanksgiving Hike - Florida Trail along Little Econ River

I like birks. They are comfortable and last about five years.

Shouldn't this discussion be moved to the shine box thread?

>>>>Teva sandals for everyday.

Yep.  I had some Tevas that I wore as my everyday shoes for years.  Loved that they were waterproof and they sure did take a beating before they finally gave up the ghost last year.   I now have a pair of Keens in a similar design and couldn't be happier in the footwear department.

GO TO THE SHOE!

Birkenstock Milano since 1992. Love 'em.

Lance trolling Admin?!

Someone get CAT asap

Will do, lava.

do they run true to size?

I'm a 7 in Chacos, 8 in hiking boots and 8.5 in running shoes..most of the time

good question! no clue, yet, nanc, we just found them and have some on the way. :)

I've always worn an 8.5 wide. A few months ago my chiro measured my foot and told me to move to a 9.5 regular, but to get shoes with laces, wide toe boxes and as close to zero rise as possible.

The zero rise and wide toe box is key.

Wide toe boxes? Like those square toed dress shoes that make Tom Ford angry?

>>>Lance trolling Admin?!<<<

Could be, but my intention was to troll Puddle. But I'm not very good at trolling so I'll take your word for it.

>>>square toed dress shoes<<<

Those things look ridiculous, but I've always thought you could kick a football real good with those.

and never flip flops  with pants.

Got a pair of Ugg's for Christmas- my feet are happy

Oh yeah, and Dansko! if only I wasn't in between sizes, can't seem to get the perfect fit, but the arch support is divine.

I wore some  vintage cowgirl boots out last night - Justin brand boots, amazingly comfy.

1984 Roos. I put a quarter in the zippered pocket and felt like a King.

I buy all my shoes at Walmart. $12 - $15. Great value.

My Minnetonka moosehide moccasins are super comfy !!!
