Aloha Phil, Phamily & Phriends - Hawaii 2016

Forums:

So I thought I should go ahead and start this thread.  Us island pholks are stoaked that papa Phil and the gang wil bless us with two shows this year.

Tonight is at the Maui Community Arts Center (MACC), and NYE is at the Hawaii Theater on Oahu.

Looking forward to a jammin' couple of nights with all you lovely people.  Everybody have a blast!

Can't remember the last time we had dead related stuff here on the islands, aside from Papa Mali or Billy K related jamz.

Setlist and pictures to follow.  Phreaks jump in the water's fine!

Aloha - EZE

And this one on Kauai. Phil as special guest?

Have fun!

Not really comfortable with the papa Phil moniker or any moniker they gave the band, but have fun pholks.

Wish I had the cash to be there.

aloha!

Aloha island pholks and phriends !

Glad we have some black screen boots on the ground out there.

Looking forward to hearing reports from the scene.

Have some great shows! Keep us posted...

artist: Phil Lesh & FriendDate: 29 December 2016
Location: Kahului, Maui, Hawaii
Venue: Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center

Lineage: AT933H (4.7k) > Battery box > Sony PCM-M10 (24/48) >
Audition 3.0 (audio boost/edit/resample 16/44.1) > TLH > flac- align on sector boundaries

Amazing to have Phil and the band play here on Maui - especially in a venue like the
Castle Theater.

Usually the crowd at the MACC is very subdued. It's not uncommon to hear shouts of "down in front" if you stand and dance. But that wasn't the case at this show! Everyone was up and moving with many smiles all around.

The house mix was heavy on Phil and many of the vocals were sometimes muddy sounding and a bit difficult to understand. But the overall sound was very good.

Enjoy and...

Thought the show was pretty good, the sound was pretty bad up in the balcony though. Awesome crowd, good to see so many happy people showing up. Hopefully tonight the sound is better, either way, should be fun!!

And how was last night's (NYE) show? Fun to be at, I presume. Any reports?

Spike  coming through again. Thanks for the Link. And the same to Paul Woz.

Zoeey thats a great link.  Lots of awesome photos.  Thank you again and again.

Looks like last night was such a barn burner no one could report back...

Nice to see Phil only sang 2 songs. No hate but the man can't sing, never couldyes

What is that song "West",  something new?

the drummer is terrible.

I like the 1999 era Phil shows when Lesh sang almost every song.

(((PHIL)))

Box of Rain>Wharf Rat>Box>Hard Rain looks like a fun combo. Would prefer hearing Phil sing the Hard Rain probably though.

Anyone got links to this?

Just getting to review of NYE EVE show now as traveled to Maui Sunday

to enjoy further vacation time.

It is a very cool little venue (like a smaller Tower Theatre) with kind security.

it looked around 80% full.

The sound was good but wish it had been a bit louder.

Set 1 highlights were opening Shakedown and the seemingly odd Box>Hard Rain > Box - around 905-1015p

Set 2 was a monster, and liked their work a lot on Terrapin - around 1030-1140p

after New Years Countdown, enjoyed a third set ending around 1a with a great

St Stephen into an at times rocky The Eleven - do not recall a donor rap or encore

Ovwrall, a  solid and energetic show with tight playing and terrific vocals and with a few songs that

made it that much more memorable bringing in 2017 with PHIL in NYE in Hawaii

Thank you, Ross!

Thanks for the review Ross...sounds like it didn't suck ass but peeps like to see their sarcasm in the black screen...

and West is a Ross James original song...

Thanks for the review, Ross.

80% full on a NYE is nice and low-key to me.

80 percent full is still good for a tax write off for a trip to Hawaii for the fam.... Setlist looks killer!! I went to Garcia Birthday Band in Portland with Fiance and her mom..... They are a fantastic cover band!!!  smileysmiley
