Americans, by and large, like the idea of cutting spending. Fully 60 percent say the government is spending too much
They isolated 16 areas where spending could theoretically be cut. In only one case did a majority say that the government was spending too much in that area specifically: foreign aid.
But foreign aid is less than 1 percent of the budget,
And Americans overwhelmingly oppose cutting spending in the areas in which it could actually make a dent in the federal budget deficit.
About 6 in 10 say the government is spending “too little” on each of Social Security, Medicare, health care more broadly, education and infrastructure. On none of them do even 1 in 5 Americans agree that we’re spending too much.

and they mostly think politics is a binary exercise in red team/blue team good/bad, sort of like the super bowl.
NVM that we could cut defense spending in half and still be spending like twice as much as our next closest military and economic competitor (China).

I think almost all Americans would heartedly agree that most people are stupid, the problem is that virtually no one believes that they are part of that group.
"We ain't many" is what EVERYbody thinks.
Personally, I've always adhered to the old idea that the only smart people are the ones who KNOW they're stupid.
And unfortunately, that's the group who ain't many.
