Sad but true of the original members. I can still remember when I first read a story about the Dolls and me looking at the photo use, going, "WTF?" Although I had and have pretty broad musical tastes, that era of New York City and the rise of punk mixed with glam is my "coming of age" musical story. As time has marched on, I consider myself lucky to have interacted with so many of the musicians from that era. Those who were part of that scene are, to this day, a tight knit community and the love for Syl is an amazing thing. I can't say that I've heard one bad thing about him shared since the announcement of his death and for that to happen in the music biz is quite frankly a miracle.
The twin guitar attack of Syl and Johnny Thunders in the Dolls was a force to be reckoned with and he wrote and co-wrote so many great songs. One of my all-time favorite songs he co-wrote with David Johansen still gets played quite a lot in my home, Frenchette.
Thanks for linking that Tony. What a powerful straight up punk song. I never looked to the punk bands as a catalyst to play punk music but as an affirmation of doing your own thing in life, if people come they come. Just be real.
