Another reason why I heart SF> last-minute show announcements

Forums:

I had already planned a trip to the Bay for various reasons in early February.

Seeing Grace Bowers @Independent and the DSO run at Oakland Fox.

Then my college and GD tour BFF, Beth, ( Seattle), said she could meet me - very fun reunion ahead!

Just this morning I saw that The Chapel announced 1 Dave Chappelle performance on night 1 of DSO -- I was willing to split the evening and try for tickets.

Chappelle doesn't even start until 10ish.

I was 81,000 in the queue.

Looking for 2 miracles -- but can pay face.

Anyone seen him at a venue?

Typically that changes pretty quick as everyone drops out.   Not sure if you stuck around.

I don't support homophophic "comedy".

That's what I remember hearing about him, too, aiq. I wonder if he has talked about changing since then?

homophobic comedy?  wasn't aware about that angle w/ Chapelle.
 i'll pass.   thanks all.

id highly recommend taking a listen to his story about daphne dorman from "the closer" before making up your mind. to me it seems more like a case of dave having a few different ideas from the pervailing liberal opinion on trans people and making a few slightly mean/crude jokes, as has been the standard for dave since his career began, rather than actually being hateful. im not in the running for this show but would love to catch dave sometime.

No spot taken. IMO he's one of the funniest standup comedians of all time, but he's done quite a few of these last minute small venue shows in SF over the years and from all reports, beyond him always starting SERIOUSLY late, like hours late, he tends to not be working on new material as much as just rambling. Because he's so naturally funny that can be funny but it overall it sounds tiring to me.

As for the trans business, he's always been close to the edge and nothing I've ever heard has given me pause, again IMO comedians are supposed to push boundaries, and I think it's possible he's taken that tack a little farther simply because of the "outrage" he's received.

I don't know anything about him lately(except for what I read above), but his television show was one of the funniest ever.

Just realized I'm in Bay Area on Super Bowl weekend, doh!
Don't track football like I used to..

Thanks BSS, def not pursuing a ticket.., trying to figure out BMFS stuff today!
