Any competitive Tie Dye artists out there?

Forums:

If so there's a tye dye competition coming up in SF that's for a good cause. I casually know the owner of the store that's putting it on and she's super cool, so since I can't dye anything tied myself I figured I'd throw this out there to do my little part...

Good luck you damned hippies!

What we need is a reality show where they all shit-talk each other.

Centrist!  Your colors don't pop!

Yeah?  Well, you never even saw Jerry.

You see the prices of the products at Love on Haight?

Those lot hippies OWN the lots now.

(But they still leave all their trash there)

in 97 we couldn't give tie dye away....now it's a thing in fashion....

This is the only interesting thing happening in the Haight:

Soaring rents (and everywhere in SF) are killing it's soul. Recently the Asbury Music center closed (Rodney Albin's old store) Rasputins music closed  in December. Only tourists visit the Haight to buy $80 tie dyes and step over puppy-pulling dreaded flat-brims spanging for change...brah

I just met this guy in Salt Lake through a friend and bought of couple of his. https://hugodyes.com/

wow, great art on those Hugo Dyes...

Hey Slick.  You've got mail.

I saw that Bluest. I'll get with ya. Off to another meeting. Inland Port last night. Legislators tonight.

It sorta humorous, sorta sad. The Demos actually think they can do stuff in the Utah Leg.

Yeah WALSTIB, he comes through town about twice a year and stays with a friend.

kinda seems like a contradiction of terms

Utah House - 75 seats. 18 Democrats  57 Republicans.

Utah Senate - 29 seats.  6 Democrats   23 Republicans.

Mormon Republicans in rural Utah control what happens in the Democratic stronghold of Salt Lake City.

AND the legislature gerrymanderd our SLC congressional districts so SLC has three different reps with large rural constituencies in the mix.

And I don't think a damned one of the wear tie dye.

I became friends with Hugo in the late 80's when we both lived in Charlottesville.  We did the 1993 Summer Tour together.  He was trading his dies to the GD crew for backstage passes.   I remember him introducing me to Cassidy Law in Louisville.  I moved out west after that tour, and we lost contact.  Glad to hear he's still thriving.  I've still got two of his tapestries from that Summer.  I recall they were $80/each.  Looks like they were a good investment.

As I recall, things were somewhat competitive between the tie-dye artists in Charlottesville in the mid-late 80s.  Hugo had learned his fold technique from a couple (I think their names were Tom and Laura).  They preferred more earthtone color design than Hugo's use of pastels and fluorescents.   They were really cool hippie-types, but weren't interested in Dead tour, preferring arts & crafts fairs.

At the same time, there was another artist named Bill Constable who was making exceptional dies with a pointillistic style.

I'd see them all just hanging out.  It was cool watching them size up each other's work.  I think they were looking for inspiration while beg, borrowing or stealing whatever they could, like most artists do.

I'd go back a bit farther, but it's a good point. Tie Dye got revived with the Touch of Grey onslaught

We have a guy named Hugo in Charlottesville thats pretty darned good at that shit.

It's the same guy that's in Slickrock's link, 73guy.  Hugo Pineda.  That's his website.
