Any Interest in a Dylan & The Band 1974 Collection Vine?

Forums:

I received my CDs of the Dylan & The Band 1974 collection this week, and I'm just about done ripping them. If anyone is interested in setting up a vine here, I'd be happy to seed it with a USB drive filled with all 27 CDs in FLAC format, and pics of the booklet.

Nice offer, I've been enjoying the box more than i expected to.

I've just been listening to individual songs while I've been ripping the discs, and haven't listened to a full show yet, but that's enough to know the audio quality is top notch, and the playing is really inspired. And while there's a lot of repetition of songs, their shifting placement in the set lists as the tour develops is keeping things interesting.

Also, as if it matters, "Something There Is About You" is the one tune I keep going back to so far.

The Tough Mamas are great and to hear a Song for Woody thrown in was a nice treat. Some nice stuff you don't get on RTR or 76 too and some versions that may even rival them...

i'm in Mike! let me know how to proceed!

Scott, usually the first thing to do is to make a list here, and it looks like you'll be the first on it, so you should send me your mailing info; my email address is in my profile.

We'll take a few days to let the list fill in (I'm editing the tags on the FLACs right now, and that'll take me a couple of days), and then I'll send the USB drive out to you. When you're done with the USB drive, mail it out to the next person on the list.

Oh, and the files need about 11 GB of disc space.

Don't copy this to the vine list, but just a head's up.

You'll probably have to send the thumb drive as a package since it won't go through the P.O.'s letter machines. Postage may be about $5, a pittance for the privilege of this vine. The a-holes at my P.O. wanted $5 postage for Mike's Kamala pin.

The USB drive I'm sending has a slim profile, and I'm sending it out in bubble wrap, so I'm thinking it should go through okay. Fingers crossed. If it doesn't, I'll send it back out in a small box.

Bubble wrap should be fine for protecting it, but it still might get package rate. But your P.O. folks are nicer, Mike. Media mail could work too, maybe.

Funny you should mention media mail, Slick. I tried sending some a copy of a magazine in a flat envelope by media mail a couple of weeks because I thought it would be cheaper than regular first class, but it turned out to be almost twice as much as first class, and was going to take nearly twice as long to get to where it was going. USPS is still a pretty good deal, and reliable for the most part, until they're not that is.

That's sounds weird, Mike. I mailed a hard cover book to Albany from Salt Lake on the Friday before Labor Day. $5.80 or so. She said "it'll get there a week from Monday" (about 10 days later.) It arrived Tuesday in 4 days. And it was a lot cheaper. If there's room, it will fly with first class. Lots of folks mail CD's media mail. It's not as slow as they tell ya.

Even crazier was that it was only being sent about 100 miles from me. I want to love the USPS, but they just make it too damn hard sometimes.

Other option is to put this online if we want to get rid of mail.  I think it's sort of fun to do it the old fashion way too but I'm sure we could just put it on drop box or the like.

Mike, again, thank you for sharing. Super excited about this.

If I had a fiber connection, putting it online would've been the way to go, but I connect via DSL and don't really want to spend most of a day uploading it. But I don't know that I'd call mailing a USB drive old-fashioned. That would've meant mailing CDs and everyone on the vine would need to spend about a day ripping them.

Mike thanks again for the effort you put into this. I am sending to Joe Buck today.

Any progress on this? Zang, I need to get with you about an address.

I heard from Scott about a week ago, and he said he had sent it out to Joe Buck, but Joe hadn't received it yet. Scott was going to resend it if he needed to.

Why would you copy and circulate an official release as a vine? Unless I am misreading this thread, it's not a cool thing to do, it's copyrighted music, not uncirculated bootlegs.

Please add me to the list, thanks

Mike

I got it.  Thanks Scott.  Currently in Cancún.  I'll mail this when I get back on Friday.

Howard, welcome to the internet.

Howard, thanks for bringing it up. As copyrighted material it's not Viva cool.

So, this should be the last offer of this sort.

Mike, thank you for your generosity of time and spirit.

Just buckle up and buy a copy.   I'm playing one disc a day, and have been very pleased with the sound quality.   Dylan and the Band in the year Planet Waves, Desire, and Blood On The Tracks emerged.  A career peak.
