Can someone explain this "war
Can someone explain this "war on Christmas" phenomena to me? I guess I missed something, because I've heard the phrase for a while, but not quite sure what it means.
Is it because of American commercialism associated with the holiday? Is it because there are other winter holidays that are recognized as competition? Is it because some people greet others during the season with something other than "Merry Christmas"? Who declared this war and who are the combatants?
I'm truly confused, as I see every celebration as a justification to celebrate, as in acknowledge (a significant or happy day or event) with a social gathering or enjoyable activity.
Seems to me, no matter how you celebrate, it's what you celebrate and that should be pretty benign, as in kind and gentle. I can't understand how that can lead to a war, as in conflict, but these days I guess anything can happen for no apparent reason, as in the ability to think, understand, and form judgments by a process of logic.

I always thought phrases like Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings, Happy Christmas, etc. were just things people said from the goodness of their hearts or greeting card pronouncements. Never knew they could be taken as an attack on Christmas. Also, never knew this was perpetrated by Marxists. Since I am a firm believer in the culture of Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Zeppo and yes, even Gummo, I must confess to unholy and outrageous comedic behavior is something I subscribe to and therefore, I must be as guilty as those who may be charged with waging such a war. This year I may consider the phrase "there is no sanity clause" as an optional greeting.
