Anyone following S Korea political drama?

Forums:

Wow - it looks like a blueprint for what could happen here:

President calls for martial law to quell political dissent.

Opposition party impeaches him but the guy won't leave office.

Police try to remove President from office but his hand-picked security detail and his supporters resist.

As of today, a standoff.

It's a little more involved than that and S Korea doesn't have a 250 year history of democracy, but it's fascinating to watch it unfold.

This is a really interesting article

Yep, There Are South Korean Joe Rogans and Roger Stones Too

One big takeaway is that South Korea is similarly awash in right-wing and left-wing YouTubers who have similarly either destabilized trust in traditional media or taken advantage of that lack of trust, depending on whether you’re on Team Chicken or Team Egg...But the most interesting detail is that this world seems to be a big part of the answer to a question that still looms over the whole attempted coup, which is: “what was President Yoon thinking?”

South Koreans are much better at organizing mass protests.  I worked right near City Hall- It was fascinating seeing them unfold, very orderly and polite but super vocal.  Have ex-pat friends still living there posting some updates.  It won't get violent in any way.  The overall thought is pretty much what El Nino said- what was he thinking?

He sang American Pie at the White House. That might have something to do with it.
