Anyone heard about Discogs.com for audio collectors?

Forums:

Noticed a job listing I qualify for at Discogs, based in Portland.

https://www.discogs.com/getstarted/

It's a place to buy / sell / track music

Anyone familiar with it?

Sure, I use it all the time to price records (along with a few other sites).  It's about as well-thought out as any of them, and popular with sellers because of the better rates on the per/cut take they get than on ebay.

I met one of the founders about 2-3 years ago when he dropped by my shop.  Seemed like a good dude, with a business on the way up.  They get name-checked and used by many customers now.  It's kind of funny seeing people pulling out their i-phones and price-checking everything, but's that's how it is these days.  One of my customers theorized the reliance of people on it as a price gauge may be inflating prices, and he may be right.

My guess is it would probably be a good crew to work with at a company that is growing and should continue to.

Just Go To The Interview!

Hahaha yes. Discogs has been around for ages. Sorry to say if you're not already familiar with it, then I'm not sure you are going to get the job honestly. Portland is full of record nerds

Thanks Herbal Dave. Are you still in contact w/ Kevin Lewandowski, the founder / owner?

Hotnanny: Thanks for the positive vibes... I've spent a lot of years doing PR work for a different sector, so haven't been actively managing my music collection... and that also means that Discogs has been communicating to a very narrow audience sector if they don't have super broad name recognition.  The job I'm applying for is a public relations position... and finally, an opportunity to combine a passion topic with my professional skills.  PR professionals are accustomed to immersing themselves into new topics to be successful with new projects. On LinkedIn, I'm in the top 10% of all applicants for this opportunity. Therefore, I do think I have a good chance at getting an interview.  Now I just need to convince them, too.

I'm simply looking for professional connections or insider knowledge of the company, that's all.

I only had the one run-in with Kevin, Llollo.   He seemed pretty bonafide.  Good luck.

Thanks, Herbal! Submitted my application late last night.

I created a Discogs account and am slowly going to put my collection up there. It looks like fun (to me).
