Anyone know when the new May '77 box will be shipped?

Forums:

When it first came out I debated on picking it up because of the price. After a bit of time passed I'm glad I did. Now I'm curious as to when it will arrive.

Anyone know?

Looking forward to it!

Thanks

Amoeba Records All Stores - Doing A Release and Listening parties at Stores show Cornell 5-8-77

https://www.amoeba.com/blog/2017/05/amoeba-music/grateful-dead-live-at-c...

I was listening to 5/8/77 again while exercising a few days ago and I still don't get the excitement over this show.  The Scarlet jam is long but aimless (Jerry spends a lot of time fiddling to get his tone right), and NFA is just okay (I listened to 5/26/77 afterwards and IMO it's much better).  A standard show saved by a great Dew and rocketed into fame because a great Betty Board came out in '87 and was the first great recording that a lot of folks ever had.

But yes, I ordered the box and await it's arrival.

Just pre ordered even though i have 5 copies of show in different formats - It;s an Official release So i Sprung.

hey hooper... i have a copy i will give you a good deal, if you wish... your talking abiut the may 11,12,13,15,17 1977 box set... right?

I'll let you know when it pops up on the torrent sites.

Got an email this morning that it has shipped. Yay!

It's one of the great shows.  Is ti the best?  Who knows?

Excited to hear it on vinyl

You didn't receive it yet? OMG. You should call GDM ASAP.

You work in the industry, Howard?

No such thing as "the best" IMO.  Too many great shows from eras that vary wildly in all of the important aspects of what makes a show great.  Add in the subjective factor and it's impossible (but so human) to try and identify "the best".  Same with individual songs.

I would guess it comes out on 5/8   or there abouts.

Got my e-mail. Will arrive on the 5/5 release date. As promised.

Still curious how they will split tracks for 9 sides of vinyl!

Lots of box sets out there. Stuff's more fun than bitcoin.

I am not sure about the box-set, but Friday, 5/5/17, is the release date for 5/8/77 CD.

June 11 for the box set. Definitely an acceptable birthday present in case anyone was wondering what to get me.

I still don't get the excitement over this show.

Thom, you blasphemous SOB, you!

But yes, I ordered the box and await it's arrival.

OK, that's more like it.

I really enjoy the 5/8/77 Scarlet/Fire sampler Dead dot net sent out. It takes a little getting used to.

But it's the original master tapes, mastered (re-archived) forever with the latest and greatest and it sounds it.

My box set shipped today and UPS tracking indicates it wil be delivered Friday, May 5th. Yay!

Same here, box set shipped & eta 5/5. : )

Received mine today...Spinning it later...

What are there so few tracks per disc?

That would annoy the fuck out of me to have to change the disk after one or two songs.  (or in the case of disk 5, one song)

or are those for the LPs.

thats the LP set set list. The tenth side features a custom etching

Yeah, those 9 "disc" sides are the LP tracklisting.

I gotta say, the CD packaging is unique, but not super user-friendly.
More discs were out of place than in place when I opened it.
Not an easy packaging format to just "grab a show" for the car. Or am I the only one who still plays CD's, lol.

No cam, I thought the same thing when I left the house and grabbed the first show. Kind of clunky. Massive really.

I still listen to cds.

I'm on the juice!

I'm done juicing, now I'm crankin'.

((((HDCD))))
Well through most of the Boston show now, phenominal sounding.

Really nice volume level on these CD's, the car player really could take advantage.
Fucking gorgeous with the HDCD decoding in all it's glory.
I know some will tell me there is no discernable difference. My ears beg to differ.

I'm thinking there is a reason they are still using it :)

Got mine yesterday. Just opened it. Wow! Really cool design and packaging but..

Cam nailed it:

Gonna give a spin after some coffee and some fresh bake goods.

Agree about the CD packaging, but I don't usually manhandle these numbered releases too much.  Gonna give some of it a good listen today.

Are they numbered?  Someone I know says he can't find a number on his.

Yes, 1/15,000

the number is in gold on the back of the booklet. #2113 here.   I think the cases are supposed to resemble reel-to-reel recordings.  Either way, no scratches, sounds wonderful and  im very pleased. I'll just slide them out, transfer them and put them back on the shelf. Its a great set of shows.

Mine should be here any day.  In the meantime I downloaded the flacs on a torrent site and am really enjoying it.  It's been years since i listened to this run.  I am noticing alot of little things I never noticed before.

Sometimes it's disappointing to find out the show you thought was so tight and high energy was actually sped up on that cassette tape you listened to for all those years.

(Damn remastered box set releases shattering my 'hot show' notions.)

This '77 box does sound damn fine, though, and they still rock.

Is there a particular show in this set that you're referring to Breeze?

My first cassette copies of Cornell and Buffalo '77 sounded great (SBDs) but were sped up by at least a semitone, hence the faster tempos.

I just got my 5/8/77, clearly on time.

Proudly made in Mexico!

Wow.

Audio quality is outstanding.  Jerry owns that Boston show, especially that third disc.  The Eyes-> drums-> Wheel-> Wharf Rat is to die for, and I had forgotten all about that beautiful 5 minute jam between The Wheel and Wharf Rat. The kind of delicate interplay that was lacking in the later years.  Just fantastic stuff.

If anyone gets around to the MNS from 5-9..I'd love to know if that audience patch is still there at the very peak of the jam?? Thanks...

They are soundboard patches flown in from other shows....
