Are You Still Wearing A Mask?

Forums:

Yesterday marked two weeks since receiving my 2nd shot of the Pfizer vaccine.  My employees will have all hit the two week msrk by tomorrow.  We have made mask-wearing mandatory in our shop since we reopened over a year ago now.  I am leaning towards making mask wearing optional tomorrow, and personally opt out of wearing one.

From what I've been told, the Pacific Northwest is much more vigilant about the masks than other parts of the country.  Besides the small risk that the vaccine won't be effective for me, is the main reason to keep wearing the mask to help protect the unvaccinated?  If that's the case, I feel like everyone has had a chance to get vaccinated at this point, and the hold outs bear personal responsibility for their compromised position.

Thoughts?

Good question. I still wear a mask when walking into a restaurant or a store, despite being full vaxxed. Mostly as an etiquette thing. My local pub stopped requiring them for fully vaccinated patrons, and they re-opened the bar top last week which felt like a return to normal. You are on the right track.

If I had an indoor business, I'd keep the mask mandate a bit longer, mostly because the only people who balk are likely not even vaccinated and well, there are breakthrough cases. maybe wait until fall when more adults  and kids are vaccinated - and more is known.
You're could lose more business if your store goes maskless. Maybe start asking your patrons?

I had both vaccine shots back in March, but I've still be wearing a mask when I go into a business, and many businesses still require them where I live. I'll probably carry one with me for the foreseeable future, and put it on when it feels like the right thing to do.

It seems like something needs to be done with all the masks we've acquired over the last year too. Maybe a massive patchwork quilt project?

The fact that it's not much of an imposition hasn't changed. Some places still require it. I still keep mine handy and wear it occasionally. After all, I look so f'in handsome in my Christmas present.

That's "a face made for radio" right there. Lucky for the viewing public, it's covered.

I wonder if at this point, with over 70% of my county's residents vaccinated, we're as likely to lose foot traffic as gain it as the number of people chafed by wearing a mask exceeds those chafed by not having a mandatory mask policy.

My local Trader Joe's lets the fully vaccinated go maskless.  I haven't noticed anyone not wearing one there yet.  They still make you line up outside to limit occupancy, and I'd guess their employees all are required to wear masks.

I wear it when required. Vermont is at almost 80% vaccinated. I don't wear it at the gym. It wasn't required at the gun shop (go figure...).

Going out to see live music tonight for the first time since this all began!

Vaccinated people aren't the ones easily chafed by being required to wear a mask indoors. You could also poll your customers..but make sure your staff is good with a mask optional policy.

There's just the 3 of us, and if either of them says they want the whole store to remain masked, I'll keep the mask policy in place.  My guess is they will be okay with continuing to wear their own masks and/or gloves as long as they want, and letting everyone else make their own individual risk assessment.

CalOSHA still prohibits indoor working without masks and distancing in my workplace, regardless of vaccination status. June 15, this will likely change unless there are unvaccinated people, then it will still be required.

I'm vaccinated but still wear one when out with my kids as they are required still and it's easier to keep my 3 year old in a mask if I'm wearing one too... Funny the attitude I get about why I'm not vaccinated yet. Everyone is a judge

Only indoors.

I notice about a 60/40 split, unmasked vs masked.

Some sideways looks amongst the folks.

Could be my mask...

Like a lot of people mentioned. I still wear masks in indoor businesses and at restaurants when not seated.   Being that I am fully vaccinated, however, I no longer put on a mask when the server comes over to take an order or when the gas attendant comes by my car window to take my card.

In general, the big difference I see from one month ago is that more and more people are not wearing masks just walking around town.   Not too long ago, mask wearing was de rigueur outdoors here whenever you passed people on the street and on hiking trails.    I did a lot of hiking last week and hardly anyone at all was wearing masks, even on busy trails.   People are still wearing masks indoors.  Governor says she will lift indoor restrictions once 70% of the adult population is vaccinated, but with all the vax-hesistant people out there, not sure if we will get there.

Stopped in the small town of Forks, WA last week way out in the sticks.   Other than the cashiers, very few people were wearing masks inside the supermarket.   Seemed like the town was done with it.

I've heard Forks loggers once fought and then ran the hells angels out of town at gunpoint.

I'd guess they probably don't like being told what to do.

I'm doubled vaxxed, as is most everyone I know. I just wear it where still required - indoor businesses mostly. Went to the Farmers' Mkt. Sat. and they still required a mask. Our county had only 1 new case reported yesterday. Indoor restrictions will be ending soon here, I believe.

NO mask, fully vaxxed ... i will wear them on a plane and in the airport but if there are people out there that dont want to get vaxxed and dont want to wear a mask, more power to them, we could use less of the far right/evangelical right anyway...and as far as becoming an asymptomatic spreader, i am willing to do my part to facilitate the spread to the non believers

That sentence is pure gold. If you don't mind, I might have to steal it.

I don't unless required for entry like Doctor visits Hospitals and such. I'm a caregiver so I still keep masks handy.

No. No. Yes.  Yes. No.  Shop-Rite has a 'vaxxed? no mask required' sign up.  Also ended one-way aisles.  Staff and most customers still masked.

Auto-parts place had no sign and no masks, including the other two customers.

Dealer service dept. required masks (and supplied them).  Lady on a smoke break said all staff were vaxxed in her dept.  Didn't know about the showroom.

Burger joint.  Staff masked, as were 3 of 4 folks picking up.  Head shop (where I went while my burger was cooked): no masks.

My "Vaccinated" button is affixed to my ball cap, which was in play for three of the above (bed-head/sunny day protocols).  Thaks again, Mike!

PLEASE BY ALL MEANS, DO NOT MIND AT ALL

Not unless a venue requests it. I've been in Colorado for the last week and haven't once donned a mask!

When the occasion calls for it

I keep a mask in my pocket. Yes in the 2 stores I've been in, no when I'm inside or outside with people I know, who are vaccinated, no when I'm outside with a little distance, remembering it's about the viral load. I think 60+% are vaccinated in my county.

Dave, even though Seattle has such a high percentage of people vaccinated, aren't you dealing with a lot of tourists in an indoor situation? Maybe you have a great ventilation system.

If someone wants proof that I'm vaccinated I scanned my vacc card, downloaded it to my phone and carry it where ever my phone goes, which is pretty much everywhere when I'm out of the house. No one has asked yet, but they may.

We kept things locked down tight as a ducks ass since last March. Vaxed up and am slowly beginning to trust the science. Played music indoors once with people I trust. Played outside twice. No masks, no issues.

I still wear a mask at stores and avoid being close to people I don't know. No restaurants and no concerts this year for me. Colorado's front range is largely back to pre pandemic life and so far the numbers are staying low. Stay positive, test negative.

Yes and I am also double shot for almost 2 months now.

When I am in any confined or indoor area with other humans yes.

I get every cough sneeze or ailment that floats my way. Always been that way.

Wearing a mask has kept most of the shit away from me in the last 15 months, except for Rona X2

Also I never want to catch that shit ever again.

I think you're good to go.

Seattle Is 1st Major City To Fully Vaccinate 70%: Mayor Jenny Durkan

The mayor’s office also says 78% of the city’s population 12 and older has started the vaccination process.

yesyes

I'm carrying a mask and wearing when feels appropriate.  I've been traveling again quite a bit for work.  2x to Arkansas, 1x Colorado/Wyoming, and am currently in Minnesota.  Seems most have ditched the masks as well- airports, etc aside.

At this point, I can't see any legitimate reason for a healthy, vaccinated person to wear a mask anywhere.

I was just in DC where I happened to go to the National Gallery of Art for their reopening to the general public last Friday.  There was no mask requirement.  On the flight back on Sunday, Alaska offered full beverage and food service for the whole cabin, the first time I've witnessed that in a dozen flights I've made during the pandemic.

Everyone has the option to mask up if they want to, just as they all have had the opportunity to get vaccinated.  Fine, you didn't want to get an effective and safe vaccine, that's your choice, but don't make the rest of us suffer.  If you're a nervous ninny, paranoiac, hypochondriac or whatever, again, you are free to wear your masks and/or remain a shut-in, but for fuck's sake, mandatory mask edicts in all public places here in the U.S., including on public and commercial transit, need to end.

I carry one and if asked to wear one, I do. My kids are asked to wear one slot of places still so I wear one if they do do they feel better about it. Hard to explain to a 3  year old the difference

I'm sure the mixed-message is confusing to infants and toddlers.   They must be wondering why people are wearing masks in some places yet not others.  It will be curious to see how this masquerade impacts child psychology and development.

latte liberals are in love with their masks

>>>>I carry one and if asked to wear one, I do.

As long as there is one person that can be saved in this land, I'll be masking both indoors and out. If you want to potentially kill a grandmother, that's on you.

Keep your virtue signal trimmed and burning, Tatters.

I see grandparents every day. They look like they've had the best lives.

I'm slipping on my mask wearing as I got both shots. Hope I don't regret it with the India strain and possible others to come!

Thank you, Tatters.

I am fully vaccinated and still don't want to get sick. I always wear a mask in buildings other than close, vaccinated, friend's houses. I could be have an asymptomatic case of Covid and don't want to spread it. In my county, maybe they whole state, we have to wear masks in medical facilities (my homes away from home) and a number of other businesses. Most stores require masks. Period.
I always have my mask in my pocket when I go out for a walk or to visit someone. My fucking neighbor refuses to get vaccinated and I refuse to get within 10 or 15 feet of her, and that's outside. I know it's all about the viral load but I also know that shit happens. The disease that killed Greg happened to .07% (7 out of 10,000) of people with his kind of cancer on his treatment. Rare as could be.

Knotesau, I'm a happy grandma and I'd like to keep it that way.

Careful there, Slick, wearing that mask get-up in and around Salt Lake may earn you a strip search or a SWAT visit!  ;)

When people say they may have an asymptomatic case, what did they do to get that?

I assume everyone I see doesn't have it because the opposite would have me fearing everyone in the bay area.

I haven't been sick in over a year. My wife hasn't had anything. Our son hasn't gotten sick in over a year and he's returned to school and been in a different summer school for a few weeks.

When is it safe to say covid ain't in your vicinity without snarky disbelief?

Ask The Homeowners!

Most of them haven't masked since April 2020.

Yankees - Red Sox postponed,, WTF

Still wearing mine in public -  that variant is a mutherfucker I want no part of

Choose to be unvaccinated,, not only are you fueling a surge,,  yer a dumbfuck shithead pure n simple,, and whats worse yer probably a repub

L.A. County will require masks indoors amid COVID-19 surge - Los Angeles Times

Indoors - yes.

Outdoors - not so much but I don't go anywhere that involves a lot of people. I really want to go to a show, but I can't justify the risk at this time. I had to go to a shop in Boulder the other day and being around tourists made me uncomfortable. Covid has definitely changed how I feel about being around people I don't know.

Yes, I have vaccinated friends getting sick in my circle. I am vaccinated but still wearing the mask

The new variant can get you even if vaccinated, still it helps to be vaccinated and continue to social distance and wear the mask. If getting the shot could possibly save your life its just plain trump dumb not to get. Actually i think dumbo did get the shot. Still dumbo dumb. Better safe than sorry, in some cases better safe than dead.

Lots of people at the grocery store not wearing masks, no way to tell if anyone is vaccinated or not. Or if they are trumper rebels that never wanted the mask and never intending to get the shot.

I wear mine inside while out in public, not outside while walking my dog but i stay away from people.

No.  But still distancing and breathing selectively, as appropriate.  My old everyday public transit protocols.indecision

When I think I need to wear a mask or am asked to wear a mask, I wear one.

Actually, they're fighting Covid by not Fooing

FTS I'll be wearing one whenever I'm around people, till this shit goes away,, which looks like never.

It amazes me how some still put up resistance. Last week they had a rally against em at the state Capitol. This past  Sunday they had a rally on the woodbury ct town green against em. A family member dying seems to be the only thing that changes their minds.

I got vaccinated as soon as I was able to but I still wear a mask. Mainly because wearing one majorly reduces my allergy symptoms and other health issues which make it look like I have the covid and freak people out. Also I don't trust anyone and it doesn't hurt anything to be a tiny bit safer for the kids who haven't had their shots yet, or the adults who can't get vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons.

They probably just think you're unvaccinated, not a COVID carrier, Dise.

Eff 'em.  Keep doing whatever you think is best for you.

I have been going mostly mask-free the last 5 weeks or so.  With the influx of UW personnel already occurring for the return of a fully open campus for the Fall Quarter, and the wave of incoming students about ten days away, I am starting to wear a mask when indoors and around strangers again.

I get dirty looks either way but that could be my go-to out in public t-shirt, who knows?

gtf.jpg

im 100% vaxed and 110% done with masks. im comfortable assuming the tiny risk that comes from a bunch of unlikely things all happening in a row - that a vaxed person gets covid, a vaxed person spreads covid, and that person is someone who cannot get the vax due to health reasons or age. i have zero desire to make any effort at all for those who can get vaxxed and choose not to. i wish them all the best, but wont be lifting a finger. so far everything ive seen points to any one of those situations being pretty rare, and to have them all happen in a row within 2-3 weeks seems even less likely.

n95 masks offer incredible protection against covid for the wearer, anyone who is really concerned about getting covid despite being vaxxed, or who cannot get the vax, should be wearing one in public. imo there is no reason to continue imposing social restrictions on everyone when an option like the n95 mask exists that offers high levels of protection to the wearer. ive always been anxious to be done with the masks but have never held much anti-mask sentiment, but we have the vaccines, and n95 masks are widely available again. 2 very very effective measures that people can take for themselves rather than needing society as a whole to fundamentally alter human communication for any longer than we already have.

there is a baseline risk to being alive. we go out and accept all kinds of risk of death or serious illness every single day, and since it does not seem likely we will eradicate covid, im more in favor of accepting the risk of covid as part of the baseline risk of being alive, and encouraging folks who wish to mitigate that risk further to wear n95 masks. it would be really, really awesome to see some kind of federal program where low and low/mid income people can easily and quickly sign up to receive free shipments of n95 masks from the government with minimal waiting and simple/quick means testing. all of my local hardware stores are fully stocked on n95 masks, most stores are still offering curbside pickup, online shopping is easier than its ever been, so i can only assume that all the people i see out and about in stores and the like that are not wearing an n95 are comfortable with assuming the risk of being around people without masks who may or may not be vaccinated.

>>>>I am starting to wear a mask when indoors and around strangers again.

Depending on how strange, I may mask up also.

I'm starting to wear mask again, 6 feet distance, washing hands more etc.  not worried about getting very sick but the delta can easily be caught by vaccinated people and I can't afford to fail a covid test.  We're traveling abroad and failing the test would ruin that trip.

6 feet distance is the best thing ever in the history of humanity.

I used it all winter in lift line to keep fucking people from touching my skis.
