Artists You Discovered Because Of Philzone

Forums:

My two favorites are probably Bill Mylar and Ryan Adams.

Mathew Sweet - very grateful for that.

Jackie & Anders

Joe Russo's Almost Dead

Oh fuck.  Shout out to JeffG and DC6 too.

Professor Boko's Rhythm Rapture

John Mayer.  I discovered he is very triggering to some.

Railroad Earth (I had seen Andy and Tim play with The Blue Sparks From Hell in my 'yoot')

JRAD

Holly Bowling

Perry and Mark

I've been thinking on this for an hour or so and other than the Dedicated Maniacs I honestly can't think of any I "discovered" directly through the Philzone.

The zone definitely got me going to some different shows though, the David Nelson Band being the most obvious, but I already knew about & had seen them before.

I had quite a few good times seeing the Maniacs at the Connecticut Yankee and other spots around the BA though.

I discovered many great bands on here that I have been blessed to be allowed to play with.

I would agree that John Mayer is very triggering to some, but I think it goes both ways. When I say something negative about him - some people seem to be triggered into defending him. It's a funny thing, you know?

Zang recently turned me on to Jon Sudano

Cryin’ Ryan all the way

Another vote for Cryin' Ryan.

Trifling Hippy with Joan Osborne. So many people thought Joan was good or had a boner.  Total stain, thought as much then as now.  Total zero.

Jason Isbell. Really glad I checked him out.

Verve, Six, Ateix, NYC Ed, BOTB, Lites, Tapecat, and a Guy from the NE- can’t remember his name, very funny dude who handled the trolls well..... he really knew his shit about early 70’s music. Popi too, and many others who have turned me on to many bands probably without them knowing. ;) So, I give them my gratitude vs. naming a bunch of bands. Oh, also Chris formally of SF. Thanks to you all. :)

Another DNB mention.

I mean, I had heard of Neslon from reading about pre and early GD, and I had a CD with him on it when GD still played.

But Zone enthusiasm is what really made me want to catch DNB, which I still have not managed, though I caught the Neslon/Sless run at the Cap in 2015.

Richard Thompson too.

Oh, PJ is the name of the Zoner whom I couldn’t remember.

I'd like to think I had a little bit to do about spreading the gospel of DNB on the old Philzone... yes

as far as being introduced to new bands that I dig thru the black screen, the ones that immediately come to mind are Cabinet, Holly Bowling, Achilles Wheel, and the many Zoner bands who played at the WCZJ's... but I'm sure there are others
