Artists that you never got to see live

Forums:

There are plenty but today I'm feeling the loss of never seeing Joni Mitchell perform live on stage.

Hendrix, Beatles, Stones, Clapton.

That's about it.

Muddy Waters, Rolling Stones, Clapton, John Hiatt, Pink Floyd with Roger Waters. I'm sure there are more, but those are the first that come to mind.

On the plus side, I'll finally be seeing Patti Smith in September.

David Bowie

Talking Heads

Sex Pistols - had a chance to go but could not find anyone to go to the Cleveland Agora with. I tried by even saying 'they like you to throw shit at them" but no one I knew was into punk, and neither was I but I always enjoy a great freak show

The big one for me is Bruce. Hope to fix that soon.

Clash and Talking Heads are big ones on the list as well, The Clash because their fans were in line at the mall at the ticketmaster on the same day dead tickets went on sale and I passed on tickets because I was too focused on the Dead at the time.

Picasso

Saw Joni a few times, that Day In The Garden at the original Woodstock site was the best time.

Mike, I met Muddy at the old Woodbury Ski Area. Got his John Hancock with guitar Jr.

mike you can still see some of yours !

Rembrandt

Michelangelo

Van Gogh

The list is endless

Jill, I'd really like to see John Hiatt, but the Stones and Clapton I can live without.

Talking Heads is definitely on my list too. I've seen Tom Tom Club and David Byrne's America Utopia, but if Talking Heads ever toured again that'd be really sweet.

You know the rules, Ras. Pics or it didn't happen. I saw Bonnie Raitt at Woodbury in the late 80s. That was a fun show at a really cool venue.

There are no rules buddy. Believe me or not I don't give 2 shits.

I'm old, I've met and got autog's from a boatload of our heroes.

Muddy - Hubert Sumlin - Roy Buchanan - Otis Rush - Buddy n Jr - Koko + Pop Taylor - Pinetop Perkins - EC - Lonnie Mack - Country Joe - Leslie West -  Mick Keith Watts Ronnie + Wyman - Johnny + Edgar Winter - John Sebastian - David Crosby, Steven Stills - Entwistle + Townshend - Buddy Miles, Mitch Mitchell + Billy Cox

Lots and lots more.

Next time you're in Ct the wife and I would be more than happy to show ya and fill you up with some stories.

I've pretty much seen everyone who was still alive after I turned 13.

Lol I've been to Maine Spain and the great plain

chewed rope smoked dope even fucked the pope

never did see Johnny cash tho

Frank Sinatra

Elvis Presley

Miles Davis

Granted I wasn't born until 1970 so the only real feasible ones were Sinatra and Miles.  I should have gone to the Met Center show in 1991 the night before

the super bowl in the Metrodome.

My parents told me they saw Bob Marley in Orchestra Hall sometime in the mid-70s which I cant' even fathom.  My parents were NOT smokers by any chance.

happy friday.

Jim Morrison

Hank Williams Sr

Kris Kristofferson

Jerry solo

Squeeze

Sex Pistols

Seen all the others from Led Zep To Johnny Cash

Lou Reed

Oh yea

Lou with Stevie Ray (saw Stevie before)

My ride bailed on me, siting in my living room with the ticket in one hand and my dick in the other. Fuck You Mike.

Seen hundreds of bands and artists, but missed so many more.  Too many to list.

See them if you can because they may not be here tomorrow.

Some nice performers in this thread so far and I'm sure there will be many more to come. Due to my age, I didn't get to see The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix or The Doors. I wanted to see Johnny Cash something bad but the stars definitely didn't align for me with him. Had tickets for shows that were canceled two times  AND in a real cosmic "NO MAN IN BLACK FOR YOU" moment. I was checking out a local singer/songwriter in Asbury Park, NJ at the Berkeley Carteret (now Berkeley Oceanfront) Hotel lounge and after about an hour decided to call it an early evening and drive back to North Jersey. About 20 mins after I left, Johnny Cash, who was an investor in the hotel, walked into the lounge, walked up to the local artist and said, "Hello. I'm Johnny Cash." and asked if he could play with him for a bit. Cash ended up sitting in on the last scheduled set and then proceeded to play solo until 2:30 am in the morning.

Damn!!!!

I too, have seen so many performing artists and there aren't many left alive that I haven't seen if I wanted to see them in the first place.

Lou Reed

I was able to see Lou Reed a number of times before he passed, but my most memorable Lou Reed moment was at my High School of all places. Our hs had an actual on air FM radio station and I was the music director. As often happened I had to listen to incoming albums and singles after my school day and writing little snippets of text to help the DJs pick out new music to play. The closest exit to the radio station accessed a parking lot and the woods that surrounded the school on three sides. As also often happened, I would exit the building and duck into the woods to grab a few hits before getting back to work. After I had self-medicated that day, I noticed a guy in the parking lot trying to figure out how to get in the building. I asked if he need some help and he told me that he was trying to find WHPH-FM.. I laughed and told him that he found their music director. Seems that he was out in NJ promoting Lou Reed's current album, Coney Island Baby and while in the car and spinning through the dial, he came upon our station playing a cut from the album and decided to stop by and thank us. He then added, "Oh yeah. Lou's in the car with me. Would you like to interview him?"

Shit yeah!!!

I'm still amazed to this day at my luck

As for Talking Heads, I got to see them a bunch as well. If they ever toured again (chance in hell) I would cancel all other plans and be there.

Wasn't there recently a variation on this topic? Maybe not, things tend to blend in my mind these days.

Also, the topic is a bit broad. I would love to have seen Django Reinhardt, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, etc. who died or retired before my time.

For artists I wish I had seen and COULD have seen where I had a specific opportunity with a ticket offered or available - Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison, the real Pink Floyd are the ones that come to mind.

Of all the others mentioned here so far, other than Muddy Waters I've either seen them, had/have no interest in seeing them or had no opportunity to see them.

I would like to have seen Waters, who I believe passed sometime in the '80s, but I have no recollection of a show he played near me that I could have attended.

As for artists I did see but got in right under the wire, I saw Miles Davis a couple of times right before the end of his line, Ray Charles and James Brown also at the end of their career.

All of those were sad shows. I don't believe I saw the "real" performers, just shadows of their former selves. That's why I skipped Aretha in 2015, as I was concerned that her show would be similar, but by all reports and videos I've seen, that was a totally incorrect decision.

Damn.

^

Aretha was another one I missed much for the same reason as you, Tom. I also was told afterwards that she was still firing on all cylinders.

Damn.

^ I'm surprised Skifurthur you didn't see Aretha at Radio City for Mandela Day. I think it was 2009. Great concert though the crowd was boring.
