The problem is, most people whose sensibilities are ruffled really never make threads or contribute much. I get wanting people to be more civil, but you cannot force only the yin or only the yang...

Shows and lots taught us this.

People would rather just pop in to say something stupid about others stupidity rather than make their own thread or contribute positively...

Been that way since the get-go...

i can never understand what all the drama is about over removing threads and banning folks, etc...its just so confusing to me.

right now is the end of my few months off for winter break - im waiting for the weather to warm up so i can plant, and just chilling out in the meantime, so im on the zone quite a bit more than usual since i have so much free time ATM, and i hardly ever see any of the threads or comments that result in these removals or bannings, usually because once a thread gets super long and has alot of back and forth that requires the context of the whole thread to understand, i get bored with it and usually go do something else.

i dont even have any issue reading the attack posts or anything offensive, i just dont have the attention span to make it through 40+ posts to find out why one smelly blading drugband fan is calling another smelly blading drugband fan a faggot.

so i usually stop reading those threads when they get real long, and often open threads, skim them, and if its mostly personal back and forth i often just hit the back button, again, not specifically to avoid negative threads, i just dont have the attention span to read that kinda stuff. i tend to just pop in, post a silly picture and bounce out asap.

so i almost never see the sections of threads in question when this stuff happens, because i choose not to read those threads! what a novel concept! if you dont like it, dont read it and dont participate!

i fail to see the importance in maintaining control over the discussions of others in a space that is ultimately seen by only a handful of people with a very niche interest, and has absolutely no influence on the world at large. why would anybody want to waste time on that?  if you dont like it, just stop clicking on the thread and reading the posts. if you have trouble doing that, you may need to consider therapy.

i will also add that it is lame that atiex always gets himself banned(im just assuming since banning is being discussed on viva that atiex is banned, i actually have no idea who got banned or what went down), he is one of the zones last living links to good music made by people who do not wear tie dye headbands and that tradition should be preserved.

I have never complained about him. I have never asked for him to be banned. I have never emailed admin in almost 20 years of Zoning. I usually just post back to him if I care to - so posting "where did he touch me" is really kind of asinine.

Whoever gets a time out or a ban here - look, these are not my choices. ateix gets himself banned every time - so why don't you go ask him why he can't control himself and has to be an asshole so often.

when i no longer wanted to hear those things i stopped reading the threads and responding to their comments. eventually mike invited me out for a beer and some jazz when i was in NYC, we shook hands like nothing ever happened and both had a great night smoking weed and listening to killer jazz. the fact that im now on very good terms with the two zoners i used to butt heads with isnt even the point - the point is, once i stopped participating or responding, or just turned it into a non confrontational joke, that shit dried up quickly.

This thread will never find the answers it seeks. We’ve been down this road many times on Viva already. 

Some of us saw this as a problem in the beginning when many folks got a permaban. When you didn’t add your voice to the hew and cry then, you allowed this to happen now and evermore. You didn’t have to love Tulsa to see his permaban as a wrong turn for the Zone.
